I've got my gateway running SuSE 8, but i'm trying to configure the Internet connection to be shared with the client computers on my network with a transparent proxy. I'm told Squid can do this so I installed squid from the package installer gui, along with a copy of webmin.

The problem arises when i try to start squid from webmin, it says my squid cache isnt initialised, so I click 'Initialise' and get the following result:

Initialising the Squid cache with the command squid -f /etc/squid.conf -z ..

I assume all is done, go back to the squid manager and it says the same message...

    Any ideas?

nuked squid and enabled the suse firewall with packet forwarding , now transparent proxying works perfect - to a degree..

Now i've gotta fix dns and im set, hopefully =]

your trying to run a DNS server or just trying to do lookups from an outside server?

U should try get squid running anyway its handy for speeding up web browsing a bit.

heh, nuked suse8.. there's a known issue with it and adsl - whenever the PPP connection is disconnected by the isp or otherwise the system will either kill it's usb, or it will crash entirely.
