remember the good ol' days of MASK and Transformers? Man, I would love if they showed re-runs of them. Then theres other ones like skeleton warriors, mech warrior and bots master.
I think the new type of cartoons such as futurama and family guy are good and all but they just don't live up to the likes of Transformers.

    The Tick!

    Jayce And The Wheeled Warriors
    Bravestar
    Danger Mouse
    Darkwing Duck
    Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
    Transformers
    M.A.S.K.
    Thundercats
    G.I. Joe
    The Simpsons
    Family Guy
    Futurama
    Hey Arnold
Dungeons And Dragons (what was the baddies name? Vadar or something)
    Voltron
Dino Riders or something like that where they took control of dinosaurs with these helmets and it was the humans against these alien guys.
    Spongebob Squarepants
The 3 Friends And Jerry has it's moments too.
Em those bears that lived in a tree and they drank this purple potion and it made them strong and they could kick the crap out of the baddies, and I cant remember it's name.
    Earthworm Jim
    The Tick

Why did you start this thread, I'll be here all night...

    Trapdoor, although technically that's claymation.
    On the same note, Morph.

Battle tech was uber cool for its day. It had loads of CG fights init that at the age of 9 or so i thoght was unreal

The tick was good aswell. miles better then that "Spiderman" character whoever he is

    Tough thread.
    I'd have to go for
#1 Ren and Stimpy (Spumco of course)
    (large acres of space)

    #2 Earthworm Jim

    (large acres of space)

#3 The Maxx (That Mtv cartoon with the white and black rabbit things and the outback - sheer weird and brilliant for it.)
#4 Batman (+ of the future)
    #5 Futurama

and numerous childhood others, listed below, choose your own order. It's suprising how few people remember Jayce tho. All those oldies are nostalgia gold but not that good when you grow up - like roland rat, eh?
Have to say though - am I the only one that preferred Transformers generation 2? Rodimus prime kicked stuffy Optimus arse.

    just as important:

Did ANYONE see the last episode of Ulysses?? I swear some kid in japan has but ffs that thing went on for years.

Wasn`t that the Gummy Bears(afair) was top notch as well.

Anyone remember a cartoon called Lost City Of Gold/Seven Golden Coins (or something), had something to do with this kid who had half a medallion that unlocked city of gold (or something)

    It was Venger.

    Cool show, that was.

Oh, and BazH... It was "Mysterious Cities Of Gold"

Voltron (?)- Five robotic cats that combined into a badass robot. Fantastic.

Battleship Yamato- This truly was the greatest cartoon of all time, I don't think it was on telly in Ireland (i saw it when I lived abroad) it was phenomenal though. Space battles and suchlike.

Ulysses- Good but surely too despressing to show to children. Anyone else remember the one where this poor guy had to push a boulder up a steep hill everyday under the glare of three suns? Now thats just mean.

Mask and Transformers also deserve an honourable mention.

Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors & Earthworm Jim ("..you and your puritan work ethics!").

    Ah memories.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

    Yeah Voltron was cool.
That's obviously where they got the idea for Power Rangers, blatant rip off.

I though that cartoon was Gummy Bears, but then I thought no that cant be right, that's what the penny sweets are called.

Wasnt it "Eldorado, the Lost Cities Of Gold"? Whatever it was called I remember watching it.

    ok...

    He-Man
    She-Ra
    ghostbusters
    smurfs
    glo-worm'
    my little pony
    tom and jerry
    flintstones
    the archies
    strawberry shortcake
    care bears
    G.I.Joe

I know I am missing one, but these are/were my favorites...
Oh what I would give to see the old he-man and she-ra cartoons again...they never did re-runs of those. I wonder why?

The Cities of Gold, Ulysses and Around the World with Willy Fogg were all good televisual experiences of an animated nature, if I recall correctly.

I went for an interview at Logica once and they asked all the candidates to name their favourite cartoon as an "icebreaking" question at the start of the day. Your answers are used to measure how well you work as part of a B2B team to achieve a goal and formulate a turnkey solution. Oh yes.

    Sisyphus? Cool, don't remember that.

    ReBoot was pretty cool.

Not necessary a "cartoon" series but qualifies as CGI animation.

Plot was a little reminiscent of Tron if anyone doesn't remember it. Bob (the Guardian) teams up with Dot Matrix and Enzo to fight off the evil Megabyte. Lots of fun.

It's out on 4 DVDs in the US but nothing here.

    has to be said ...

    Transformers topped the bill

What else ..... (in no particular order)

    Robotech
    GI Joe
    ThunderSub
    Ulysses31
    The Mysterious Cities of Gold
    BattleTech
    Jayce & the Wheeled Warriors
    Family Guy
    Simpsons
    Ninja Turtles
    M.A.S.K.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,887 ✭✭✭accensi0n

what was the cartoon where the good guy called upon these powers: strength of a bear, eye of a hawk, speed of a puma?
and I think he rode a robotic horse.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

That was Bravestar. Good enough, but compared to the greats, it didn't stand a chance.

And Mak, it was DEFINETLY Mysterious Cities Of Gold.
I have pretty much a catalogue memory when it comes to 80's cartoons.

    Anyone remember the original Zoids?
Not the crap they have on Sky1 now, mind you.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,230 ✭✭✭OLDYELLAR

scooby doo or doug , there my 2 favourite cartoons of all time , scooby doo is just brilliant , because it always turns out to be the museum owner or summit waering a mask and well doug is just great , go quail man!

Marvin. One-dimensional, single-minded, boring. Simply brilliant.

What was that one where guys used to have different suits that they'd get into, all would have different abilities like the fly and kick ass suit or that. Has been annoying me for a while now.

Keep on getting flashes of it in my head and is driving me fcuking nuts...

Was it the Centurions or something like that ???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

I kind of remember that cartoon, and the name sounds kind of right too.
Was that the one where they had holograms on their chests or is that another one again?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,399 ✭✭✭✭Thanx 4 The Fish

Not sure, was a good while ago but I remember watching it saturday mornings, was a cracking cartoon, whatever it was called.

Didn't they have a hyper catchy "changing into their suits" catchphrase...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,761 ✭✭✭✭Winters

M.A.S.K @ imdb Took me a while to find ... "Mobile Armored Strike Kommand"

Joe Alaskey the guy who does the voice for Marvin the martion also did the voice for Daffy Duck.

Where have all these shows gone anywho? They should rpeat them at about 3 in the morning so people who remember them can watch them :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,399 ✭✭✭✭Thanx 4 The Fish

Just googled a bit, it was Centurions, anyboy else remember the intro ??
In the near future, Doc Terror and his cyborg companion Hacker unleash their forces to conquer Earth!

Only one force can stop this evil -- a handful of brave men -- in specially created exoframes, they can be transported anywhere -- to fuse with incredible assault weapon systems -- beamed down from the space station Skyvault -- becoming Man and Machine - PowerXTreme!

Max Ray -- brilliant sea operations commander!

Jake Rockwell -- rugged land operations specialist!

Ace McCloud -- daring air operations expert!

Whatever the challenge, they are ready!

    The Centurions!

For anybody who missed it .....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

Actually now I do remember it.
And the one with the guys who have holograms on their chests is another cartoon.

Did ANYONE see the last episode of Ulysses?? I swear some kid in japan has but ffs that thing went on for years

yes i have the entire series on VCD, it didnt actually go on for as long as you think, it was about 26 episodes ifi remember correctly, last ep was ok nothing special

On a side note it was done by the same french crowd that did Mysterious cities of gold

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3 Eroved

When I was a kid I used to watch Mask for hours on end. I think I still have loads of tapes around somewhere with episodes I recorded. Would anyone have any ideas how I would go about getting them converted to mpeg format on a PC?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,987 ✭✭✭✭zAbbo

i`ll get flamed for this but another two cartoons(albeit camp)

    Dogtanion and the Muskateers
Willy Fog ( around the world in 80 days)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,595 ✭✭✭Gaz

First off you would need a capture card , depending on your software you could capture straight to mpeg or most likely straight to avi and then convert.

Note: Quality will not improve, if its a **** 15 year old copy on a video it will look like a **** 15 year old copy on your computer.

If you realy want them i could sort you out with a copy , i have loads of 80's toons on VCD, just drop me a PM

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,578 ✭✭✭Slutmonkey57b

Only 26 episodes? How come I was watching it from the age of 13 to 16??
Somebody was fiddling with my meds.
Tell me, please - did the annoying kid and the robot get massacred in the last episode? Or did all the zombies just wake up and demand croissants?

I can't believe the same people made Cities of Gold - that was painful.

God I forgot about Duckman. Brilliant show.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,183 ✭✭✭Quigs Snr

    Transformers
    Mask
    Centurions (remeber the toys ?)
    Jayce and the Wheeled warriors
    Ulysses

And how come no-one has mentioned:

    Dungeons and Dragons.

Did they ever get back in the end ? I'd love to know what happened in that.

What about the end of Jayce as well, anyone know what happened there ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,987 ✭✭✭✭zAbbo

i think D+D was already mentioned, i think they did get back, but sacrficed that to save someone else(or something~damn sketchy 10 year memory)

Reading this thread the cartoons of 80`s and early 90`s kicked ass.

There`s not a decent one for kids today(rant), they`re all too damn camp and plotless.

    Jackie Chan Stunt Cock etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,578 ✭✭✭Slutmonkey57b

I disagree - a lot of cartoons are actually better and more adult now than they were in the 80's.

to whit, another one I forgot:

    STARSHIP TROOPERS

god how did I forget. But really, nuclear war and fascism - how did they persuade them to make that a kids cartoon??
Batman and Batman Future are far better than transformers. You forget just how much 80's cartooons were about toy sales - modern cartoons are about sinister brand management.

As to camp, there was NOTHING more camp than all those french 80's cartoons.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 524 ✭✭✭buzzerbuckley

got ot be the wacky races,so many familar characters all in one,the game needs more of them.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,538 ✭✭✭PiE

What is it about Ulysses? Everybody I've ever asked about it either said they had nightmares after watching it or said they watched it religiously. There was some major-brainwashing going on in that cartoon, I'm certain.
