How much would you spend on a night out?

Right, this may be something of a nosey question but I don't really mean it to be.

I went out with someone for quite a while (4 yrs) and he used to sponge off me for nights out. He never paid his own way, and after a while I got used to it. So used to it in fact, that in the last eight months I literally cannot BELIEVE how cheap it is to go out!!!!

If I'm out for a night (as in pub, cheap food, club, home) I will spend:

Around a fiver getting to my destination, the price of forty ciggies, the price of my booze for the night, another fiver on some sloppy disastrous burger thing, then nightclub entrance fee, not that much to drink in the nightclub and then a taxi home. All in all, a night out now costs me about £40 STG (me being on the mainland) and used to cost me about €60 in Dublin (ciggies and taxis and beer being vastly different in price between the two venues).

Considering a night out used to clear me out of a hundred and twenty quid (oirish) or thereabouts, I think this new setup is cheap as chips and as a result I'm probably spending far too much time on the tiles at the moment!! :D

So what would y'all spend when yer on a night on the lock then?

(And how many of you are subsidising more than one person's thirst when you're out?)

Whats the bank account damage on a night out then? 69 votes

somewheee around the 60 mark usually, altho i usually have money left ofver to buy the emergency 3rd pack of silk cuts on the way home. Mind you i usually drink local so theres not much taxi costs in that and i dont pay entrance fees that often to the places i booze late in.

about €70 will do me for a night out at the weekend. that is if i can crash in a mates house that night. if not then i have to add another €15 to get a taxi home

if i go out during the week its only for a couple of pints and a few games of pool so its a cheap night. if i drive then its even cheaper due to the lack of alcohol. :)

Is that "how much do you plan to spend" or "how much do you actually end up spending"? :)

(I generally plan to spend 40-50 quid. And end up spending up to 200 quid. Hey, lets buy bottles of champagne, get taxis to stupid places, go to ridiculously expensive nightclubs and purchase class A drugs. Alcohol is BAD.)

about €10 on a few pints in the local b4 i go.
Bout €10 on the bus, that'll take me home as well.
Another €10 on pints in a pub in town.
€6-€10 for entry to the club.
Rounds of V & RB, to the tune of a lot.
    Drinks for the ladies.
Food after, another 4 to 8 euro, depends on how drunk in am.

    just under € 80 usually

Spoken like a true journalist-type rotten bástard who still owes me a tenner.

(But if you'd like to let me come out with you and you can buy me champagne and bring me to ridiculously expensive nightclubs and purchase class A drugs that I can share in, that's ok too.)

Taxi from celbridge to city centre €25.00 (buses are crap out here)If I make the bus then deduct €22.00
    60 smokes €15.48
Entry to Fibbers €14.00 for two
Drink-loads of it for 2 again bout €60.00
    Abrakebabra at 3.30am €10.00
    Nitelink €14.00

So I suppose €140-160 for two.
    Not bad.

Depends on what time the match is on, if we have a morning game then we all go to the pub straight afterwards and would spend anywhere up to €200 an evening game would finish about 9:30 and I might get away with a couple of quid under a ton.

Depends. Shoulder of Vodka in work beforehand (if I'm in work) will only set me back a tenner (including the coke and soakage). After that it'll only take around €25 worth of alcimihal to get me where I want to be. If I go into town sober, I'm extremely liable to spend €50-€60.

If I do a silly one and get plastered, I'll have spent €80-€100.

    Ahh nightlinks...no taxis costs...yummmm :D

How the Fu<k do you spend that much on a bus? Seems a fairly heafty price tbh.

As for the original post Id spend about €50-80 ish on a night out.

Also Shinji can I to come to partake in the chamers and grade A drugs please :)

about 40-70 depending on the night.
€100 for a big birthday thingy (a few of my mates had their 18ths the day before the Leaving Cert Results - well on it)

The amount of money that people spend on a night out over here is MAD,

What happens if there is a slump in the economy?

Perhaps you might lose your job

then how are you going to support 200 Euro a night out benders?

Those of you who do this, do you not think that the money might be better spent?

Perhaps on securing some sort of future in the country you wish to reside in?

Personally i am sick to death of going in to town and blowing all my money on Sh!te and then wakin up the next morning with nothing to show for it but a damaged liver and a sore head.

Dont get me wrong i enjoy a good night out as much as the next person.

But I know so many people whos idea of a good time is get fuct up, how self destructive is that?

Fun does not neccesarily mean drink, i feel that so many young people in ireland cannot see around this.

Ive gone and spent 200 Euro in a night, but i didnt feel one bit proud.

    But on the topic:

    Quiet pints local €30
    Quit pints town €65
    Bender (late start) €120
    Bender (early start) more!

Depressing really. These yoyos go no distance:(

then how are you going to support 200 Euro a night out benders?

200 Euro? That's £200 sterling to you, young man!

And how will I support such nights out? I probably won't, if the economy crashes or the sky falls in tomorrow. In the meanwhile I'm going to enjoy myself. I'll deal with tomorrow when it comes.

    Walk into town
Pints all night, not many smokes

    €40 for a good night.

Tend to frequent wine bars occasionaly - €20 for a bottle of wine so a night of that = €60

No-one to subsidise but my inflated ego and attempts of humour, although a friend is coming over next month and I will be paying for her for a week. Will find out then...

Well i wouldn't count on the sky doin that any time soon :), but i suppose what you've said sums up the attitude of many young Irish people.

Have to agree with shinji there.Ill spend it while I have it.Cant bring it with me.And if the economy slumps Ill get pi$$ed from the off-licence before I go out like I used to do when I was younger and had a lot less disposable income.
I used to feel like that I was pi$$ing it up against a wall but now I love going out and getting locked especially now that our daughter will go and stay with granny and grandad for the night which also means that I can sleep that hangover off.
All part of the Irish drinking culture-drink till you cant stand and then keep drinking.

It wasn't wrapped around my head, it was covering my head and knees, I was imitating an owl, and I firmly protested on the behalf of freedom of street art.

That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Now go and drink some clear extremely alcoholic liquid and forget who you are again, that's always good for a laugh.

Actually, no change there. With some notable exceptions, consumer games journalists are poor writers who know naff all about videogames and are easily swayed by freebie handouts.
Grand every now and again we all want to have fun, just others have different ideas of what fun is i supppose

Maybe so. I can have fun on a fair few different types of night out - be it sat at home with some beers, the number for Pizza Hut, some DVDs and a few mates, or out in London going to a champagne bar, spending a small fortune and then hitting a big club and dancing until 10am the next morning - and everything in between. It's all good.
And by class A's, i truely hope you are not reffering to a very cheap and disgusting drug which is very popular

Class A is a classification for drugs used in the UK - you also get Class B and Class Cs. Cannabis recently became a Class C, but it's not something you smoke on a night out.

Class A covers MDMA, cocaine and a whole pile of other stuff. As to which ones I'm referring to, that's for me to know and you to find out :)

No, not being able to remember your name or where you live, handing picture ID to a taxi driver and saying "if that looks like me,take me there",while making comments about said taxi driver looking like Elvis is scary :)

And he bloody well did look like Elvis to as he worn shades, had sideburns and said "uh huh" alot while driving me home at 3am in the morning.

I really must drink Grappa more :)

It really depends what sort of night you're intending on having. I'm surprised by the amounts being quoted here. I would go out about 4 nights a week but I wouldn't be spending more than €40 tops each night.

These ppl who are quoting €80 and above - how many nights per week would that be - and, if more than once a week, can I have your job?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,155 ✭✭✭ykt0di9url7bc3

ohh anything from 40 to 120 euro

varies greatly from night to night

last year when working in a bar, it wasnt funny how much i was spending on going out, i had to give up bar work because of it!
£2000 in just under 3 months

€70 - €80 usually covers meh nites out
    pints in pub: €25
    cover charge into club: €10
    drinks in club: €20
    Food: €10
taxi:€12 - 20 (theres a quick way and and easy way to my house, depending on how drunk i get it can cost anywhere from 12 - 20 bucks)

I think some people are just boasting now. I agree with Samba, we should be more like our continental friends and learn that drink is BAD mmmkay?

Its indicative of the irish drinking culture that we think "class, we know this is wrong and we still do it! thats what makes it cool" and boast about it.

I wish you were all a bit more like Samba, you could learn alot from him I think.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,275 ✭✭✭Shinji

Rubbish. Continentals drink plenty, they just don't have the stomach for it as much as we do :)

Samba doesn't spend it cus he doesn't have it GB :)
I've been out with him and watched him blow a 100 no bother when he did, he's just feeling sensible today, but he does raise vg points.

The Continentals drink just as much as we do but imo the younger generations are more responsible about it on the whole than we are.

For example when on holidays they will go to the bar/cafe the next day around lunchtime nursing a hangover and drink themselves coffee's or peach nectar and other refreshing treats that don't cost an arm and a leg like they do over here.

Part of the problem lies in how much pubs demand for a silly soft drink such as a coca cola or orange juice.

We seem to go to the cafe/bar and drink ourselves out of our hangovers as opposed to curing them sensibly.....

[mass generalisations I know but based on what I've seen this is the way I see part of it]

Shinji he's been there and done that, he's not as innocent and sweet as he will have you all believe :p

The Irish as I see it love to boast about how much they spent and how bad their hangovers are which I find terribly sad.

I mean there's a girl (majd) calling a guy a big girls blouse because he has two vodka's with the one coke?

Maybe if a coke didn't cost as much/more as the shot of vodka I could understand you, quite frankly I'm baffled.

    is it worth it?

what do you get to show for your E 80 ?

don't you feel annoyed that your being ripped off?

why are the prices so high for taxis, drinks, niteclubs in dublin?

can you think of better things to do with your hard earned (hopefully) money?

will ireland's drink culture ever change for better or worst?
