I'd like to use my room for some recording but I really need to soundproof the room. Whats's the cheapest (preferably free) way to do this?

Foam (polystyrene) boards, egg cartons and heavy sheets

Soundproofing as well as padding. For those "rougher" sessions.

Heavy sheets I'd go for but polystyrene & egg cartons plastered over your walls spell fire hazard. Can't really offer any cheapo alternatives though. Sorry m8!

One simple, non permanent way is to put up rails and heavy curtains/blankets. It's not perfect but helps (And is less of an eyesore / easier to get the materials).

Yeah polystyrene is prolly the cheapest most effective way. What I'm wondering about though is why you need to sound proof your room to record?

or maybe he just wants to ramp up the tunes without being evicted?
