    Welcome to CelticTV
    Newsroom Staff

CELTIC have launched a bold TV initiative that will allow thousands of supporters unable to attend matches to see the Hoops LIVE in action.

The club are piloting an exciting new digital satellite pay-per-view service in association with Setanta Sport.

Selected friendly and European matches will be available this season through Setanta Sport (Channel 435) on the Sky digital platform to registered subscribers in UK, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland.

And the Celtic TV service will premiere with the pre-season friendly game against Italian side Parma at Celtic Park on Saturday, July 27.

Will this mean Setanta appearing on the Irish EPG? Im sure Celtic in negotiating this deal would have insisted on the service being available to ROI due to the large support here.

Also will TV3 still be able to show Celtic games or will they just not bother now with this deal in place?

    Interesting development.

TV3 would still show Champion's League games involving Celtic. No change. Setanta do not own Champions League rights in the UK or Ireland.

Just read on a forum in digitalspy which seems to suggest that the individual clubs own the home rights to the qualifying rounds of the CL and also the UEFA cup.

Setanta would then probably show one or both qualifying games and also any UEFA games if they dont qualify for the second group stage of the CL. They also have a number of friendlies coming up in the next month.

That would be correct. RTÉ showed Celtic's qualifier last year with Ajax, yet RTÉ dont hold the rights to the Champions League proper.

Hi, just been on to Setanta to book the Celtic -v- Parma game and they're sure they'll be in the Irish EPG Saturday week. they took my money anyhow.

Also for ye Bhoys out there, they're talking about a "Celtic Season Ticket" so I quess they're hoping Celts end up in the UEFA cup as they don't have the rights to CL.

Details to be finalised in the next few weeks

    Hail Hail

And as the rights to the SPL are still wide open, no one has them yet for next season, who knows!

435 here too. they don't do much promotion for the GAA do they? you'd think they would be seriously pushing that so people would know about it. Celtic v Parma seems like it will get a lot of promos
