Mr Aherne has a meeting with the boys from Merrion Square at noon. Somethin about an EU bye-law or whatever, just caught it on the news this morning, anyone know what it's all about?

Seems the government have checked out the advice from the EU and it looks like they can force the games to be shown live on terrestrial television. I'd expect this afternoons meeting is a 'what terms & conditions have you signed with SKY and how do we sort this mess out'.

I'd dearly love to be a fly on the wall for this one

Agreed, Bertie should keep his nose out of it. The cu.nt seems to spend his time trying to look like the 'working class hero' whereas he should start watching the news be taking note that this country is quickly falling down around his feet.

Still and all this is a matter of public embarrassment for the country once again.

Bucking RTE are stingey no doubt, but it would be a complete farce if national games weren't shown on terrestrial TV.

What's next, the All-Ireland Final on Sky Sports??

    Ridiculous

What everybody seems to be forgetting is : RTE IS NOT FREE. Between advertising, licenses and whatever they get from the goverment from our taxes we pay loads for RTE.

Personally I'd love to see the Irish games on SKY. RTE are a bunch of useless amateurs. Dunphy, Giles, George Whatisname - all ****. I watched the world cup on BBC and the quality of commetary (excluding Ian Wright) was far higher.

Ian Wright was very partisan, which is fair enough, he said what he felt and didn't sanitise his opinions for TV. However, we have too much of that and none of the opposite.
