I thought a saw a discussion about this.

How feasible is it to erect an outdoor aerial indoors if the property management company prohibit you from erecting an aerial.

How about good amplifiers for the signal. Are they expensive/effective. Will they take the signal from marginal to good quality? I'm not talking about el cheapo specials from argos or peats.

I'm afraid outdoor is the only way to go unless you live close to the border. Whatever noise is in the signal the amp will also amplify.

It is possible to do this with average to good results. You obviously will never get as good a signal as you would if the aerial is outside but it will work.

Signal amplifiers are good. I have a 40db amplifier which I use for reception of the UK channels with good results. The channels are nowhere near perfect, but they are watchable. All this before a FTV card. The amplifier is made by Télévis.

    Thread merged.
A simple redirect will suffice in this situation.

Initially, I had the aerial in the attic. I got a very poor picture without any amplifier. When I got the amplifier (originally a 28db one) there was a dramatic increase in the picture quality. Again when I moved the aerial to the chimney there was another increase in quality.

What is BBC reception like in Dublin? In the Midlands it is relatively good.

In the south east around the wexford area the reception used to be quite good... that was until more and more Irish stations came onto the UHF band and TV3 and TG4 came to air.

In Wexford a good signal can be got on UK stations from Presely in south west wales, however co channel inteference from RTE at Truskmore is causing a problem, the precision off set is set so that in my opinion its to purposely block the UK signals. In Gorey and Arklow things seem to switch to Llandonna in north wales... its signal does travel quite far.

Every summer its quite possible to get ITV Westcountry and Channel four from Devon, both North and South variations (during the news) Also HTV West from Mendip came in occasionally and once I got Border TV from Cumbria!

Its hard to attain a good signal all of the time... and we suffered alot from overloading... during periods of high pressure the booster would overload and it caused flashing and rolling off the tv channels) When I moved to wexford first, a group a aerial picked up the group b presely signals quite well resting on the guttering of my bungalow! Only about 12 feet above the ground level with no amplification!
