I have a qualification in Programming, Operating Systems & networks but I have never used them. I would like to move into Programming or Technical Pre-Sales support but I would need retraining with regard to programming langauges etc.

You know of any positions Vagga.

    I'd like a * p i s s - e a s y * job where I get to sit on * m y - a s s * all day playing games, and talking to idiot americans.
    ...Oh wait, I do.

But alas I will have to leave IBM and get something that doesn't make your eyes bleed.

Hehehe... sound like just the career for me... anything that involves sitting on one's ;$£ and messing around with computers sounds good. Talking to the Americans doesn't sound so good, but I'd survive smile.gif

    <<Kicks censor - why does it censor "a r s e", eh?>>

    Damn Americans,

goddam WWM I thought you were in college with the amount of posts you post, anyway does anyone have a cushy job which they can recommend me for I don't have any qualifications but I don't like my current boss and I do like sitting on me ar5e.

    bye for now
    Baz

yeah, goto ibm for 6 months, work crap hours, get crap pay and then leave and get a decent job.
where are you Baz in relation to dublin?
i mean, where do you live and what do you do now?
and what do you want to do?
and what qualifications do you have?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,099 ✭✭✭✭WhiteWashMan

oh, and ive already been told i may need my passport ina month or two coz they are opening up a new store in madrid.
never been to madrid....a weekend there might be nice smile.gif

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,660 ✭✭✭Baz_

    Well WWM,

I live in Dublin, Blanchardstown, however a lot of the time I live in Dundalk as I am in college in Dundalk studying software development and German(1st year).
I've already finished a year in college doing applications and support, which I passed, well. For accurateness I live in Dundalk from Monday morning to friday evening.
I want to do, unsurprisingly, something to do in computing and for the moment anything would do as I just want some kind of experience in a computing related job.
I have no actual qualifications though so that and not being in the know kind of hamstrings me, D'OH. But as I mentioned earlier I do enjoy sitting on me **** .

    bye for now
    Baz

Well if you have a forign language (german eh?), you could get an ultra-cushy position supporting Germans, which is supposed to be a lot nicer than supporting Americans.
You'd have to sort out your hours though, cauz' IBM will have you working all sorts of manky hours.
Like for example- This month I'm on 7pm to 6am... manky or wha'?
But it's great to have on your CV, even 6 months smile.gif

I know some lads doing tech support out in gateway, making good money considering its a part time job (argh, students with money!..noooo!).

Was thinking of applying myself, but its too far away. How long on average does it take for u to get out there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,099 ✭✭✭✭WhiteWashMan

yeah, if your german is good enough you could do tech support for ibm. the european hours are good. however you would prolly start on american line which is ...er...fun!
    try em.
im not sure who you would send your cv to, but dead-o should be able to find. apart from that, just goto an agency for contract work and get some dull job that will give you experience in the general enviroment.
its really strange, ive worked in 3 major corperations, and they all have the same philosophies (except the japanese who are a wierd bunch to work for) but things are all done differently

never get a job anywhere that has a union

  • Subscribers Posts: 1,911 ✭✭✭Draco

Why not work for somewhere with a union?

so i guess that if you want to apply for a job in gateway, one of the other lads who worked there wiol have to give you the address.
    i guess
    recruitment
    gateway
    clonsaugh ind est
