How exactly do sub orbital attacks work?

I guess I could go off and attack a planet and find out for myself. However at this early stage I don't really want to risk my ship by doing something (potentially) stupid. Anyway, just a few questions for the admins (or a helpful soul who may know)
    • Do sub-orbital attacks just launch your torps or fighters?
    • Does a sub-orbital attack endanger your ship in any way?
    • How much damage can a sub-orbital attack inflict?
    • Is there any limit to the number of sub-orbital attacks you can make on a planet?
I'll probably think of a few more later, or if anyone has a decent faq link, can they please post it. Thanks

When using Sub Orbital Attacks you do not risk your ship.

You basically launch all your torps from space.

Im not too sure how much damage they do and no your ship will not get any bigger the same as attacking someone else will not increase the size of your ship. SOFA's are used to capture planets without risking your ship. There is no limit on how many attacks you can do afaik.

Daz you couldn't actaully find out the exact details for sub orbital attacks, just so some of us can defend against it.

All I want to know it the order of the attack and the damage.

Seems tho there is very very little documentation for Black Nova Traders I can not for the life of me find much info out about how they exactly work. Have a look around the offical BNT forum or the forum on sourceforge.

sub orbital attacks take 1 turn

it launches all fighters from your ship only

    they encounter planetary defenses

beams and torps attack them (draining energy on beams)

when thats done the planetary fighters take them on

    you lose all fighters win/lose/draw

you can attack as many times as you like as long as you restock your fighters each time.

the effect is that you drain torps/fighters/energy from a planets defense making it easier to attack and capture with your ship
