Number of sectors

    In the last round, there were around 40 - 50 active players.

    Statistically, there was maybe a 10% chance that in a particular sector you would find
    • A player (albeit most stayed in either the G-Police protected areas or near sol)
    • A players planets

    Thing is, when you seek to expand your own empire, and (obviously) want to keep your own sector locations a relative secret, it would obviously help if there were more secotrs, thus reducing the chance that "unwanted guests" will appear.

    On the other hand, it would make it a little bit more difficult for conquerers, insofar as they would have to look in more places to find appropriate takings :)

    So what size would suit best, the present 2000 sector (or something close) or something a little larger.

    I thinking the number of sectors should be based on the playing time available, I'd love to see the game being played out over 2 months and have say 4000 sectors, by the time all the sectors get conjested your going to have huge players with the resources to back them up. Be a good brawling match.

    let them get congested, fight for space and planets....it would make the game a lot hard for people to build up

    I think most people seem to go for the 2500 - 5000 option, firstly because it has the greatest range :) and secondly, I think people just want extra trade routes to ply. I found I kept adding to my trade routes, and I found a few of them had already been plied (because my takings from those routes were severely compromised).

    If we had something (relatively) crazy like 500 sectors, I think we would keep bumping into each other. I think this would make it very hard for people starting late or people who have been destroyed to build themselves up to any meaningful level.

    It would be fun if we had a few sectors (say about 100) if the game was quite short (about a week), it would lead to a mad scramble for resources and sectors, and trade routes. That would be fun for a while, but I think it has limited long term appeal.
