Perhaps its a wee bit late to be posting this information but better late than never I guess.

RCI, that huge call center in Cork are holding walk-in interviews tomorrow (Wednesday) and Thursday from 4 to 7pm. Seems like quite a decent job, even tho yes its a call centre, but anyone thats ever had a computer job should be used to sitting down all day drinking coffee and talking to people on the phone.

Anyway, just thought I'd mention it...

Hate to say this , rymus, but the talking on the phone aspect isn't an idle chit-chat with a mate. With RCI it is a a cold-calling operation (to pre-determined target figures) persuading recipients to buy holiday plans.
Is there a reason why RCI have walk-in interviews every week?

Yep, the coffee is free but there oughta be a subsidised cocaine allowance too in that kind of sweatshop environment.

Well yes it is a sales environment and therefore its hardly going to be 'idle chit-chat'. As with any sales job there are given targets and deadlines, I wouldnt expect anything less.

    Whats your point?

Okay, then, to be specific........... here it is : RCI CANNOT HOLD ON TO ITS STAFF. The churn rate is the highest in the country. They are forced to hold open recruitment days in different hotels around the Cork County area every other week to maintain staffing levels.

RCI is a subsidiary of the Cendant Corp -- U.S. specialists in the hard-sell. The targets are impossibly high and the atmosphere is malevolent towards under-achievers (the 95% who cannot make the sales target). BTW, this is not anecdotal but an honest assessment founded on fact.

Look, I'm not in the business of dissing RCI in particular. For any of yiz inclined to give it a go, then by all means do. Just be aware of what this particular job entails.

    Respect.

Could have said the same about Marlborough (mind you, look where that got them)

The company that adopted the weekly circle of shame as a motivational tool:D

and what exactly is the job?

to be honest you havent given any good discussion on the nature of the job.
    so its sales?
    so its a call centre.
call centres have high turn over rates. i should know, i worked in one.

    have you worked there?
    what was your experience?

try not to make half-assed accusations coz it makes you look silly, either give us information or dont.
but dont put up any sort of rubbish that may or may not be factual.

    we like facts here.
unless im making up staistics again of course....

AFAIK they handle bookings and complaints with regard to holidays. I think it's mostly americans. I've heard they do have fairly high standards but I've also heard you get great bonuses and there's meant to be a good atmosphere there.
    Basically it's a low-stress mediocre-pay job, 4 day week too AFAIK.
It'll pay the bills and a bit more.

If you're short cash and could do with something to do, go for it. It's not a career or anything but it's easy money.

thats more or less it... they try to get americans to part with their timeshares (at least on the U.S. team anyway). Its 'inbound sales' which I must admit is a concept thats seems a little bit odd to me... I would imagine from interviews that the standard is fairly high and youre spot on with the great bonuses - 'some' people earn €1000 commission in there per month :)

Grand place (including their own gym - time to loose that gut :D) Something that I'm not over the moon about are the hours - 2pm to 10.30pm monday to friday and every second weekend :(

To be honest I only want to get my foot in the door so I can get into their IT department :D

Their own gym eh? Sounds tempting.
I might give it a go in a few months if things don't work out where I am.
I pass it every day and it looks like the talent in there's pretty good too :)
Those hours sounds kinda sh*t, but they'd suit me down to the ground in the winter, give me a chance to get some surf in the mornings instead of having to wait for the weekends....
very tempting indeed. I'll be on the lookout when it starts getting dark early :)

    okey dokey.

    i'll tell you what.

you have put up your first post yelling and shouting about some place that you dont like.

i posted up what i would consider to be pretty usual questions like what do they do etc etc.

you come back at me with insults.

seems to me you have an attitude problem and will have problems working with people.

dont bother replying as i will probably just delete it again

    m'ok?

Err no it isint... at least thats not what I was told... The job is timeshare purchase / sales with US clients (depending on what team youre in of course)...

Just cos you quit after 1 week of training doesnt mean that RCI are the communists of the call centre world
Bulletin boards (Work) as well as announcing jobs also serve a purpose in flagging sh**e jobs.

Dead right, but if RCI doesnt suit you should know that McDonalds are always on the lookout for people to flip burgers 12 hours a day :D

Can I just clarify a few things and I'll try to desist from any more posts to this thread, okay? I know it is becoming a drag.

RCI maintain a database of timeshare apartments, 'tis true. But the operation revolves around selling ancillary products. If client A wants to swap his two weeks in Florida with client B's two week aptd in Calif, RCI facilitates that deal for a fee. However, your job in RCI demands that you persuade these two clients to buy holiday insurance, car-hire plans etc thru' RCI. You also have to ask for another coupla years membership fee upfront from the clients. That is the bones of the job.

Did an extra "zero" creep in there surrepticiously? 100 yo-yos per month is closer to the mark.

Well I stand corrected.. I will point out tho that I was only repeating what I was told by RCI HR staff...
