    Eh No,
that wont happen because for the first time in a long long time, the Irish starting team is full of Irishmen.

    Given- IRISH
    Harte- IRISH
    Staunton- IRISH
    Finnan- IRISH
    Breen- British
    Kilbane- IRISH
    Kinsella- IRISH
    Holland- British
    Kelly- IRISH
    Keane- IRISH
    Duff- IRISH

    What are you talking about?

That Owen Hargreaves isn't much of an Englishman either is he?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,987 ✭✭✭✭zAbbo

AFAIK hargreaves is a Canadian brought up in Germany and Mother(?) is english.

When Lennox Lewis lost that boxing match last year(i think) he was " Canadian Born" but when he won against Tyson he was "British Hero".

    Ah well 2-1, 2-1 ,2-1 etc.

If you notice the nationality of those who missed the penalty kicks against Spain in the shootout.

    Kilbane - English
    Holland - English
    Connolly - English

    & those that scored

    Keane - Irish
    Finnan - Irish.

    Makes you think eh!!

While Zero has a good and perfectly acceptable point, let’s not let this thread just fall into a petty anti-England thread please.

It must be in their blood when it comes to taking peno's! Let's hope we don't pick up any dutch guys who want to play for Ireland in the near future :)

Nice to see you calling a lot of players Brittish. Just like Roy Keanes Brittish kids i suppose eh?

Also Hargreaves might not be fully english, but neither is Keown. Our Marting has 2 irish parents, speaks irish, holidays here every year and tried twice (unsuccessfully because of previous english youth caps) to register for ireland :(

    :(

    Hmm
    Unlike Cameroon, Mexico, Brazilian players
Roy Keane walked out on his country because of problems such as equipment, pitch....
None of these other Players would ever put their Club before their country.
Roy Keane did and now he's history.
Roy Kean was born in Cork so sadly he is Irish

i find dat absoloutely complete bullsh*t.. who gives a fu*k if they r english or irish? the fact is that they played their best for the team. it really pis*es me off to hear ppl go on and on about how fu*ked up the english are. 2 weeks ago i was there on holiday and yes im english and when there not 1 single person said anything bad about irish ppl and the team when i watched the irish match in an english pub sorrounded by english supporters wearing their english jerseys.

also while listening to the radio over there in the space of 2 hours while travelling in a car i heard the presenters congratulate the irish on a brilliant and well deserved draw with germany. they said more good things about the irish team than any presenter on radio or t.v here in ireland.

His kids were born in england to irish parents, does that make them not irish?

Who gives a F**k about Roy Keane and his kids! He's an arrogant and rich and wealthy man!

He also let down the Irish team and the 1000s of Irish fans that wished or wanted Ireland to progress to the Quater or Semi Finals.

If Roy Keane's kids posses a fraction of his arrogance and selfish behaviour then I don't want them to play for Ireland anytime in the future.

There were only 2 bad players

    Royt Keane and Ian Harte

Roy Keane was the only "English ****" a man who put the club Manchester before his country of Ireland.

Would Ronaldo, Park ji Sung, Klose or Ilhan Mansiz do this?

    No.

    That's why they're in the semi-finals

Good to see the soccor boards tradition of reasoned arguement
    being upheld!

yawn more Keane bashing. He was sent home. Plus he got us there in the first place. By this stage most people can guess that infamous meeting was some kind of crude setup.

Where did all these matches of 11 v 1 take place that people keep talking about? Vorbis, there was about 34 people that got us to the world cup.

I think what he is trying to say is that if it were not for Keanes presence in a certain number of important games, we possibly would not have reached the World Cup finals.

Tbh i totally agree with this, watch both of the Holland games, and you will see why......

Are you sure about that? I know his parents were Irish and his family slag him mercilessly about playing for the Great Satan but I heard that he always wanted to play for England because that's what he considered his nationality to be.

And fair play to him, say I.

As far as I am concerned, those who have a choice between two nationalities should be absolutely free to make up their own minds as to which they identify with the more.

Some you win (Lawrenson, Houghton, er Cascarino)

and some you lose (Keown, Keegan, McManamin, Carragher, Murphy, Kennedy etc etc) Not to mention the last man to score in a World Cup final and who could have played for Ireland: one Jose Luiz Browne.

what so it was the other 1o players who threw away a 2 goal lead?

Look, keane is an important player, but Given as easily as important. As is McCarthy important as manager. These facts are indisputable

Keane was easily our best player in both Holland matches. If you noticed he was the only player to actually care about the team throwing away a 2 goal lead. The rest were delighted not to get beaten.

In fairness Dustaz it is hard to say how the match would have gone in his absence, but honestly watch the matches again and you may see what i am talking about i simplu think that without him the other 10 men may not have performed the way they did,

    i did say "possibly"

Im stayin out of this one :)
