NetCafe Stuff Again

Obviously there has been a lot of talk about net cafes bitching about each other over a long period of time. More recently it has been mostly individuals bitching about netcafes. As much as I hate some of these posts, you know the ones 'cafe x is crap, just cause... and all the staff smell, so there'. Usually all badly spelt.

While saying this I do think there is a place for honest well thought out views on netcafes. Earlier Jag posted some views on the Yeah Cafe where there is a Lan running this weekend. Mindphuck in fairness followed the rules exactly by banning Jag for his obvious breaking of those same rules. I'm not going to comment on what he said in the post for pretty apparent reasons. But I met Jag today and he said that he wasn’t trying to be smart he just thought that as people were paying a whopping €20 for the lan he should check it out first.

I might regret saying this but there should be space for this type of review on boards.ie, sometimes we need to be kept on our toes.

    What do you think?

Well if your paying for a service / product then you expect to get the best of whatever it is your paying for. Maybe a sticky with reviews of all the known netcafes could be put in the LAN forum.

Banning Jag was a temporary measure anyway. Jaggeh, You should know better in fairness. (nothing personal btw)

As to Meglomes points, hey, I even suggested I would do a cafe review, but while people can suggest nice things about one cafe, so far, any treads ive seen, have just degenerated into a mass of this cafe sucks, that cafe bl0ws, etc.

The rules work both ways, to protect the name of a good cafe and to also protect the name of a bad cafe. I cant see working any other way tbh.

An idea - Should a cafe run a LAN and it turned out to be complete brilliance or crapola, I think people should be allowed to comment on that LAN. If a cafe runs a LAN, it is their Rep their putting on the line. However, there IS a defining line between a LAN and a games night (a visit to a cafe) and bitching about a cafe in general isnt really on at all.

After all, the forumn is about LANS and sure, we all open to suggestions.

What MP said. Nicely handled MP.

If the lan uses boards to promote itself then I think it should be open to review by the people who went.
If enough people review it and 9/10 say "it was great" then one cafe rep saying "it was crap" will be overlooked or clearly seen for what it is.

Possibly the creation of a Netcafe board would be in order where all discussion of said cafe's could happen.

I haven't fully thought this through though. Even if I had and it's a good idea, Dev probably thought of it first.

And no, I don't want to be mod.

Just wanted to mention that my post is not a reflection on MindPhuck in any way, he handled the situation perfectly. It's just about people being able to give honest reviews of net cafes, especially those running major Lans which people have to fork out a larger than normal price for.

I'm definitely for Mindphucks suggestion that people should be allowed to review lans they have attended which have been advertised on the forum.
