Suits and ties in the Chamber

The Mammy was telling me the other day that some of our new Fearless Leaders were complaining because they didn't want to wear suits and ties in the Dáil. She seemed to think it was the Greens. I was dumbfounded -- is this true? Could someone point me to some articles on the subject?

    Thanks,
    adam

I thought the only reason the 'tidied themselves up' was because they introduced the cameras a few years ago and the TDs got self conscious. While I can understand some minimum dress code, I'm not sure about there being any rules about suits and ties. I don't think Tony Gregory wears a tie (but often wears a suit).

Tony usually wears his tweed jacket (or a selection of them, whichever). Which he seems to wear quite often out of the chamber anyway (when not wearing a Christmas jumper). Man of the people and all that.

The armani fashion did seem to arrive all of a sudden with the cameras. As well as a few TDs (not enough of then imho) taking classes on public speaking.

I went on a tour of Leinster House once and we were told that the TDs themselves once voted unanimously to accept a certain dress code. You are not allowed in the chamber if you do not follow it.
