i was listening to radio 5 live coverage of the england match today on BBC interactive and alan green said that the bald headed ref (i cant spell his name) would not referee the final if italy made the quarter final. Well thats what i think he meant.

    How is it decided?

The bald headed ref is from italy but surely it would only come into play if Italy made the final not the qaurter final. I think its unfair as he is a good ref and under FIFA rules will have to retire before the the next world cup.

Could someone clear up this matter.

Not everything Alan Green says is correct. I would imagine they have a fairly broad shortlist, and would pick them off one by one as they become ineligible. It seems strange that Collina could not ref the final just because Italy got to the quarter final stage.
He was asked on TV last week whether he would prefer Italy to win the WC, or to get the final himself. He refused to answer, but is a football fanatic. He had a good game today, and I felt it was rightly a penalty.

Also that yellow card he gave to heskey(excuse crap spelling please) stopped all time wasting efforts by the English. If only our man from denmark had enough balls to do the same in our game.

Goof ref - even Dunphy (not a man famous for compliment:D) said so before the match. All major decisions seemed very fair.
