GTA3 Question

This affects how the game goes so I will stick it in a spoiler.
You know the way you can do the seperate missions like work for the Yardies and El Burro and all. Well I did the one with the yardies and the last mission is a set up and then they turn against you. This means yet another gang wants to kill you, but if you dont take the mission then there is no problem with them.

So my question is, should you really bother doing these side missions as they seem to make the game harder for you? Now I have the Mafia, the Cartel, El Diablos, the Triads and the Yardies after me, where it could have just been the mafia the triads and the cartel.

Also with the way things are going it would seem that soon enough there will be some sort of double cross with the Yakusa and then they will be after me too. But dont answer that, because I want to find out for myself.

I suppose if you totally want to complete the game you should do every mission, but I think I might just get it completed and then play it again and try and get all the extra features completed too.

Well anyway, what do the rest of you think about this?

how do u progress onto the next part of the city? Is it just by doing jobs or is by getting more money? Cuz it was getting a certain amount of money in the first few GTA games?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,810 ✭✭✭DRakE

keep doing jobs, and making 1337 stunt bonuses :D

there's a class one on the bridge :) $15000 if you make it :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,055 ✭✭✭suppafly

so its just after u get to a certain job u progress ot the next part of the city yeah?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

To progress you have to complete the missions. Money doesnt factor in it. Well so far.
This one is more like a story in comparison to the other GTA's.
You do the main missions and they lead you on to the next island and then so on.
Supposedly after a certain point (I think it's just after you reach the third island) the missions become rock hard.

money is a factor for some missions, like bombing the ship on the first island, you need 100k to buy explosives....

Or instead of using guns to take out a car, getting a coach and ramming the car off the road :)

I think the yakuza stinger is pretty good. I like the speed of the banshee, cheetah and inferno but when u pull a hand break turn they go around in a full circle. I like the coachs and securicar vans for doing does driving missions where u have to get the check points, cuz u can bust the other cars out of the way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,399 ✭✭✭Zero

depends on the mission really as regards cars.

Banshee is by far the fastest car in the game. The Stinger, Cheetah and Infernus come in a close second. (The Yakuza stinger is actually slower than the standard stinger)

I robbed an FBI car and a tank and saved them into my garage, handy for some missions. the good thing with the FBI car is that it can take an awesome hiding before blowing up. That bulletproof patriot is the job for other missions that involve lots of twats shooting at you.

In general I prefer the banshee purely because it rocks.

and yeah, the control on the cheetah and infernus is pure pants, they are a horrible car at high speed.

The FBI cars look like a modified Kuruna. R all of the patriots bullet proof? if no, where do u get the bullet proof ones? Also where can u steal tanks from? The only way i know how to get them is to use the cheat. And then i just mess around with them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,810 ✭✭✭DRakE

you can get a tank when you have 6 stars of a wanted level, tho get this high ad youu're almost already toast :)

btw, my fave xcar for all round is either the kuruma (speed and ok handling) or the Cabbie (nice speed and awesome handling :))

all in all a gg :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,346 ✭✭✭✭KdjaCL

Bullet proof patriot there is 2 of them
and a few other bullet proof cars.
When you go ona mission and youg et a car
drive salvatores wife let her die and park the car in your garage
do the checkpoint level in the patriot fail it and park it in your garage
    and so forth
in the El Burro races if you block the other 3 cars in the race and try and flip one its bullet proof you can get a van and push it upside down to your garage.
Do some vigilante missions on the 2nd island and you get a bullet proof ice cream van

How do you know you only have to do one more mission?
I'm on the one where you have to collect the porn. Do I still have loads more to do?
This mission is wrecking my head, my car either goes on fire and I have to get out (usually in Cartel area so they kill me) or I end up driving off a cliff or something.

I killled Kenji without doing any of his missions Auska is no longer highlighted Ray is finished too and have one more Donald Love mission

Yeah I'm on the final island. A few cool missions.

For those who want a tank for their garage:
It's relatively simple, I took one on the second island. Walk out of your gaff and walk up to the top of the ramp and start causing ****e. When you are at the bottom of your ramp the new cops/fbi/army dont come. So basically cause a pile of hassle, get loads of stars then back off down the ramp, let the cops/fbi that are there try and come in. Keep your bazooka trained on the top of the ramp and you will get a good few FBI cars. I stood half-way up the ramp while on about 3 or 4 stars and they kept coming but I had the range to blow them up without completely doing myself in.
Once it hits 6 stars, back off down the ramp. There are a number of ways to trap the tank, but what I did was get in my car and back up towards the top of the ramp. The tank comes rumbling in pretty fast, belt down the ramp and pull in left beside your garage, hopping out with the bazooka ready. Blow up the few soldiers that hop out of the tank. Run over and rob it. park it in ure garage and save it. wallop.

The bulletproof patriot is got on a later mission, its not a great car as regards speed/handling but you might as well keep it for any drive-by missions later on, its well handy.

best car? The stinger is close on speed with the banshee but handles better. it isnt as tough as some others but overall with speed/handling/durability I think it's the best car. (Not the yqkuza stinger, the standard one). I still prefer the banshee for the insane speed tho.

Stinger is 4 wheel, has the same acceleration but 60mph(kmh?) slower speed then the banshee. Its also 500 kg lighter.

The third island will become availible soon but you will still be working off missions from the second one.

I got onto the third one today. The missions really are getting a lot harder.

the last mission for love is weird. Where u just go into his place and then he not there and and so your finished with him. I'm on the last island aswell and the only place i have to go for missions is asuka cuz I finished the others. The one i'm on is where u have to go and find all of the cartels coffee stalls. but it doesn't even show u where they r! U have to go find them. I almost finished it the last go. About the cars, i think the infernus or and the other car that looks like a ferrari r the fastest, cuz i have been using them and the stinger and banshee for the jumps in the airport and the only too the can make the the double jump r the infernus and ferrari look-a-like. I also put on that (
    chittychittybb
) flying cheat and was flying around in the air with a tank. It a mad laugh. Has anyones else done this. One last thing, does anybody have any tips on how to fly the Dodo plane cuz it can hardly get if off the ground and just barely make it over to staunton island when i fly of the run way, so any tips greatly appreciated!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

I'm on that mission too. I got 7 stalls and then my car blew up and I was too close to it so I died.
I doubt that's the last Donald Love Mission in the game, there is still something like 20 missions to be completed from the 73 at the point we are at.
At the moment I have been looking for the secret packages, so far I have 51 out of 100, they are getting really difficult to find.

The Dodo can't fly. You should have guessed by its name :)

Anybody know what a "BF Injection (Injector?)" is? I'm doing the job on the side in Shoreside where you collect the cars and stick them in the garage. I have the other 15 done this is the last one and I dont have a clue what the hell it is.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,346 ✭✭✭✭KdjaCL

"The BF injection appears on Hepburn heights, by El Burro phone. It appears
between 5:00 and 20:00 in the game's clock. Once you get it, it'll appear
randomly just like any other vehicle. This Is an excellent vehicle."

    There you go

Nice one now I can get yet another bit of this game completed.
You would think that completing the main storyline would account for more than 50% but no.
I still have 15 missions left. 39 more packages to find. All the rampages to do. And a load of unique stunts to do aswell 14 I think.

I know its called the dodo and all but has anybody got it to fly a decent amount?
Also Is there a "collect all of the cars on the list" job in all 3 parts of the city? Cuz i've been doing the one in portland and am almost finished, just have to get the dodo and securicar. Securicar is proving quite hard to find, any tips on where to find it aside from getting one in a mission? Where r the other 2 "get all the cars on the list" jobs in shoresidevale and stauton island?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,346 ✭✭✭✭KdjaCL

there is a securicar in staunton island but only at certain times ,i ahve seen it at the end of the park where the motorway to Portland is but odnt know what times.

My record for flying is 4 seconds and only because i drove it up a ramp.

Thanks for that, i'll see if i can find it. My record for flying is 19/20 secs cuz i flew off the run way and across to the jetty at the other side in staunton.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

My longest flight is 17 seconds. I dunno how they work it out coz I've flown over the river for quite a bit but it doesnt bring up any time at all.
Where is the car list in Portland? I know you bring the cars to do the docks but I cant find the list anywhere.
I dunno if there is one on Staunton.
To find the one on Shoreside:
Come off the bridge or tunnel. Go straight past the airport turn and follow the road. It then brings you past all the billboards. The road winds right, you just keep going straight all the way from here. At the top there is a metal barrier running along the road to stop you going off the edge. (The area is Chocrane(sp?) Damn). Well where the barrier is there is a building on the left hand side of the road. There is a garage door here. Beside the door is the list of 16 cars.
There ya go, I'm sure you know where abouts I'm talking about.

I've just reached the third island on GTA3, having completed Ray's last mission (thought that one was impossible until I carried out what I thought was a novel solution
I drove to the subway, and down to the subway track which I travelled via my cab, drove up through the subway to Ray's airport dropoff point :)

I thought that one was tough. I'm delighted to hear that there are far tougher missions in store

My favourite car? The stinger is class, good speed and handling. The cab has excellent handling, I've made around 50k just doing taxi runs. Bansee for pure speed (nice for those insane stunt bonuses) and the Linerunner for all the other feckers that get in your way :)

The best gang car I've found so far is the Cartel Cruiser, nice speed and very durable and tough on the roads.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,399 ✭✭✭Zero

I just tore through the tunnel for that last Ray mission in a banshee, just have to make sure you dont crash too much. I hate that Cartel Cruiser, its horrible to drive compared to the likes of the yakuza stinger.
I found a deadly jump down near the portland docks to test the cars on, opens ure eyes to what cars can do what. My previous thoughts on the banshee being the fastest car in the game went straight out the window. It has best acceleration alright, but for top speed the infernus (not the cheetah) beats the livin shit out of it. Doing perfect jumps, the infernus was beating all other cars by close on 40ft for the jumps. You can't really dare touch the handbrake in it tho or she goes all over the road.

I have finished (more or less) the game now, but reckon I missed a certain amount of missions on it, purely because of the percentage of missions that it tells me I have done. But I did all the first island, then did all the Asuka, Kenji, Ray, Donald Love missions on second island, then that black guy on the last island, did all his missions. Did the yardie missions aswell. (i may have left out somethin, im not at my PC to check), but I mean, there dont seem to be any other main figures in it, are all the other missions that I have missed the stupid car collection missions and races etc?
Still im not complaining, I played the game solid for a fornight to get to the last mission, and its without a doubt the best single player game I have ever played. Pure class. Would be deadly multiplayer if they made a proper gang-type multi game of it. Or a mission pack with a dose more missions.
Still tho, Im gonna start it again, its too good to stop playing.

2 things to do that are fun.. firstly trucks and buses are great fun.. milling cars out of it.. anyway i think its the second island.. there is a military base and there is a miltary truck in it... get it... its cool... you can mill into cars for ages before it blows up... Also there is a tank.. now you can get it by doing a mission in a certain way but its easier to do the cheat.. im talking PS2 here now... not sure if its in the PC but i would say it is and easier to do cheat too... anyway its indestuctable so have fun... Great when you have finished the game and want other stuff to do... by the way when you finish the game you can still go back and do the missions you missed.. the phone ones anyway..

I don't mean to brag or anything, but i racked up some 2,000 seconds flying that Dodo. It definitely is possible to nudge the Dodo so that you can fly above the buildings of Stauton island, all the while mantaining some semblance of control. I highly recommend you learn to fly it though, as it gives you breathtaking views of the city.

There is a way to get the tank without really doing anything. After doing the Arms Shortage mission, there is that locked tank that sits there doing nothing. Well, (now I recommend you beat the ambulance level 12 side mission before attempting this), you can actually push the tank all the way back to your hideout. Sounds ridiculous, I know, but if you persistently sprint at the tank from behind, you will slowly push it out. It takes about 10 mins to get all the way back to the hideout, but it's well worth it, since you now get the tank quite early in the game (as opposed to waiting until you open up the third island).

Finally, in reply to Makaveli, go straight down the docks, past the numbered garages, until you get to the water. Then turn left, and then left again, and you should find the Portland car list. There are two car boosting jobs to do in Portland docks however; one that deals with regular vehicles, and another that deals with emergency vehicles. Both are situated very near each other. Oh and there's no car boosting stuff to do in Staunton. Only Portland and Shoreside.

Phew, hope that wasn't too spoilering! First post btw :)

Download the Car Stat Editor for GTA3 from www.gta3mods.com .
Last time I looked(and it's been a while so I could be wrong) Banshee was faster then any other car in the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

I read on the gta3 forums I think, that the Infernus is the fastest car, but the Banshee has the quickest acceleration.
My favourite car was the Banshee until I noticed how badly it actually handles. My new favourite is the Stinger followed by the Cheetah.
The FBI car is also pretty nifty.
As for the dodo, I still cant fly the thing, it goes up but then straight back down again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

I was just thinking there about which cars are which. Like what real cars are they based on. Of course they may not be based on real cars at all, but the cars in the original GTA were based on real cars.
    My guess
    Infernus = Lamborghini
    Cheetah = Ferrari
    Stinger = Porsche (maybe)
Banshee dunno, that car at the end of Bad Boys, whatever that was.
I didnt really think about the other cars, plus I cant remember half of the cars.

yeah the cheetah looks like a testarossa, and the infernus like a diablo. I think the banshee might sposed to be an AC Cobra. The cop car and taxi are definitely Ford Crown Victorias. The Bobcat looks like an Ford Ranger.
I hadnt realised that El Burro on the first Island had a couple of missions other than the race one, but did them last night as I go through the game again. Mission pack, we really need one, altho you could play the game over and over for ages without getting bored.

the dodo does to fly, glides for a few mins but thats all.. at least on the ps2 version anyway... hence the missing wings.. well half wings... stumps if you will... maybe a cheat somewhere but not sure...

Lies, it was perfectly flyable on the ps2.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,389 ✭✭✭✭Saruman

It was???? I spent ages trying to get it fly... best i got was 7 seconds in the air... Even tried ramping it... so was it perfectly flyable in the game itself or did it need a cheat??

Btw im talking about the dodo thats at the airport on the 3rd island... in the hanger... with the stumpy half wings... is there another one some where that flies??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,389 ✭✭✭✭Saruman

Hey just found this... apparently you can but its not easy... i figured it would be piss easy since its only a console game and not something like flight simulator... guess i was wrong... i did not keep the nose down and once i was in the air i tried bringing it up... that was my mistake... here is the best way of doing it..

    ================CRUISING================

By the time you have your aircraft steady, you will notice that you're getting close to Staunton Island. The most important thing to remember while piloting the dodo is to make small, smooth control inputs. never turn the stick severely or you will lose control of the airplane and crash. To make a turn, jerk the L3 stick to the direction you want to go. Do this quickly and repedetly in the direction you want to turn. For example when trning left: To make a slight turn, allow the plain to go from __ to / and leave it that way until the plain is on the desired course. Wen your flying the directio you want, again jerk the L3 stick the opposite direction of the turn.) Now, if you realize your about to smash into a building any second, and need to make a sharp turn, jerk the L3 stick o the left untill it goes from __ to / to |. This will make a very raid turn. When you have rolled your airplane enough to make your turn, stop jerking the stick sideways and your airplane should remain in the turn. Make small corrections to make sure that you keep your aircraft level at all times during the turn. When you are finished turning, push the stick in the direction opposite to your turn, remembering to make very small control inputs until your airplane is level again.

He seems to contradict himself beautifully there.
Also, wtf is the point of having an analgue stick if you have to move it like a digital pad?

    Patriot = Humvee
Landstalker = Land Rover (of course:) )
    Sentinal = Lexus (maybe)
Kuruma = Ford something probably although it could be Japanese like a Mazda or Hyundai or something.
Blista = some spacewagon, Mitshubishi maybe or maybe a Ford Galaxy or something like that.

You know the El Burro mission to collect the donkey porn, how far does it go?
I made it to the docks and ran out of time. Does it go much further than that? Also to anyone that has just started the game, do the El Burro missions as soon as they appear otherwise if you do what I did and wait til you have completed the game and gone back them, you will find it extremely difficult to do them for certain reasons.
That Turismo mission (the first El Burro one) is actually one of the hardest in the game I reckon. It took me ages to do using various different cars. It turns out the Banshee was the best for me.
I think that's the only car fast enough on the first island to compete with the Cheetahs. You can get one in the garage beside 8balls.

[edit] The Banshee doesnt have the best acceleration, the award goes to the BF Injector the banshees is 33 and the injectors is 35. Only one other vehicle accelerates as quickly as this and that's the little radio controlled car.
Is the borgnine a boat? I was looking at the list of all the vehicles and I didnt recognise some of them.[/edit]

The El burro Porn mission doesn't go much further..
i.e. you turn into the dock (where you helped blow up the ship)
take a left down into an alley-way, and take a right, and you should see 'the man' (read:target) at the opposite corner of the square..

Apparently you don't have to collect every single magazine anyway..

If you don't have any scruples about cheating, then the Turismo mission can be made a little easier, by parking a couple of well-placed vans/trucks in front of the other cars..
Don't bump them though, or they'll start racing...

This is handy, as apparently you can bump one of the other cars in the race back to your hideout, into the garage, and when you emerge, you'll have a fully unlocked bullet-proof car..

The borgnine is a red taxi. Its a secret car, I can't remember how to get it, but I remember it was at Head Radio.

Once you have completed 100 taxi missions, the borgnine will apeear in Harwood, in the head radio parking lot.

(you don't have to do the 100 taxi missions in a row).
