I know there both satalites but whats the difference are the channels the same?
Can I have both at the same time?
    Do I need 2 digiboxes?

the channels broadcast on both are not the same, although 1 or 2 channels are on both satellites. Astra 2 is for Sky Digital channels while Astra 1 is used by various European satellite broadcasters such as Premiere and Canal Satellite. Astra 1 also has a wide range of free channels in English and other languages.

you don't need 2 digiboxes to view them. both satellites can be viewed from 1 digibox although not at the same time. all you need is a dish pointing at both orbital positions

To complicate things, there is more than one Astra 1 and one Astra 2 satellite.

The Astra 1A satellite was the original one launched circa 1988, but it and its successors have now largely been vacated by Sky and UK-oriented services.

Astra 2x are the series used by SkyDigital.

Check out www.lyngsat.com for the grand tour... or www.astra.lu .

    .

..except 2C which is at 19.2E, the orbital position of Astra 1 series!:p Now that's confusing!

Also, there's Astra 3 which is new. Don't think theres anything to watch in its orbital position yet tho(23.5E I think)??

Out of all my smartness, I still dunno of any keyboard shortcut for the degree symbol! Can anyone enlighten me?:)

My reciever is set to astra2/eurobird1 and the channels I get include BBC1,2,3,4 ITV 1,2,3,4,all with +1,C4,E4,M4,FILM4,all with+1,C5,C5 USA,both with +1,BBC NEWS,SKY NEWS,AL JAZEERA ENG,CNN,RUSSIA TODAY, CCTV,Cbeebies , CBBC, CITV, CBS reality, drama, action and loads of other rubbish. I had a look at astra 1 and only channels I watched were BBC WORLD service and eurosport germany. Everything else at the time was not in English. I also have 8 saorview channels, 25mb broadband and dont bother with cable TV.

Why did you resurrect a 10 year old thread?

Why did you resurrect a 10 year old thread?

I googled astra 1 channels and this thread was one of the top search results. Maybe these old threads should be deleted
