Redhat 7.2 screen driver on Inspiron 8200

Very new to world of Linux so forgive anything which is obvious.

Trying to install Red Hat 7.2 on Dell Inspiron 8200. Install goes fine until I come to screen selection at end of install. I have tested the generic screen and a number of the listed Dell laptop screens and most test out okay. However when install completes and the laptop reboots I am left with flashing lines of various colours.

Same happens at 800x600, 1024x768 and higher. Screen runs fine on first partition at 1400x under XP Pro.

    Anyone?

    this might help :

assuming it's an nvidia graphics card.

Turns out that the Nvidia driver supplied with 7.2 doesn't like the Inspiron 8200. Rather than using the later driver I think I will just go with 7.3 to keep it cleaner.

I don't think that'll work (simply using 7.3). I've an 8100 and to date I've installed 7.0, 7.2 and 7.3 on it, and each time X has refused to work with the video libraries in the install. If you download/rebuild and install as the guy says in the link it should work.

Looked across a few sights on the 8200 and information was that it will work without any mods on 7.3

Have a copy of 7.3 now so I'll give it a go and let you know.
