I have Sky and Chorus at the moment but will be cancelling the Chorus cable soon.

House I live in did not have a terrestrial aerial when I moved in so am looking at installing one.

Any advice on best type of aerial, boosters and installation would be much appreciated. Would prefer aerial to be in attic rather than on chimney and has to feed signal to three sockets.

    Hi Bucks,

I really depends on where you are living. You may have to get two aerials in order to pick up the four Irish terrestrial channels, or you might be fortunate enough to get away with one. If you are really lucky you may live in a part of the country which picks up UK signals (either directly or relayed) through an aerial.

Generally though the signal throughout the country is strong enough that using two aerials in the attic with a good booster (about 28dB) should feed a crystal clear picture to 3-4 TV's throughout the house.

    Thanks Shane,

I live in Limerick so there is no chance of picking up UK signals. As for the Irish channels one of the tvs is a 14 inch vcr combi and it came with an set top aerial which gives excellent receptions of rte1, n2 and tg4. TV3 is not bad but it could be better.

Would a large aerial pick up both the UHF and VHF signals or do you need two different ones to pick them up?

Hmmm. Depends. You might get away with one aerial. Maybe a wideband grid aerial would work in attic (going by the fact that indoor aerial works fine).

According to some information that I found a standard UHF aerial should pick up all four channels. They are being broadcast from Woodcock Hill all on UHF.

    RTÉ1 39
    Network 2 42
    TV3 45
    TG4 49

If you can verify that these are the frequencies that you are receiving the channels on then you should get a perfect signal with a regular UHF aerial. You may need a booster but if a set top aerial is giving a good picture then I doubt if one will be needed.

    Thanks Shane,

I will check this evening if these are the frequencies. I live about 7 or 8 miles from Woodcock Hill and the house is slightly elevated so there is clear line of sight to the transmitter.

My dear man or woman for that fact. If you have any sense dump sky not chorus rte on sky is blocking all G.A.A matches and the world cup YES THE WORLD CUP. Sky is only a pack of conmen who dosen't give a S**t about irish subscibers. Also they are making false promises about bringing Channel 4 Utv Itv etc. to ireland oh they will be on next year, next year comes oh they will be on next year, and on and on and on. Stick with chorus if you have any sense.

RTÉ and whoever gives the rights to the programme/event are to blame for the blocking of programmes RTÉ, not Sky. also Sky never promised UTV or Channel 4. all they have said was that they are in negotiations with the channels
