The radio adds for sky, say at the end "credit card required".
Are they now protecting themselves deposits on cards.
And does this mean that now you not only have to have a phone line to get the latest sky instalation promotion??

Hi , In our case we have asked for credit cards for quite some time. This was mainly to elicit a commitment from the customer as many were asking for contracts to be posted out merely for info, in some cases they had taken a contract from us , read it and then toddled off to power city and filled out another one (I found this out because we work for Armstrongs who do installations for them). Some customers even ordered from several dealers and took the first appointmnt and just binned the excess contracts. When I realised how much time and expense this was costing I made the decision to go this way, the margins on Sky are just to small to incur any un necessary overheads.

Quote from Gerry Maguire " Show me the money" :-)

Happy Birthdays , Madman and Charles :D

The whole credit card thing could be just for verification. Sky's fav payment method would be direct debit, and those with credit cards are 99% likely to have a current account too. So if you do have a credit card, it would speed up an over the phone application.

I cant see it becoming standard. It also proves you are over 18 too.

Also congrats madman - time to get out of the house:)

The obvious reason Sky prefer DD is that it's cheaper than CC for them - no nasty few percent going the way of the CC company.

Ton'y point is likely to be the main reason why they do like people using their CC details - the committment factor.

going by todays exchange rate (and if my maths skills are up to scratch) it will cost the round sum of €64.40. very good indeed

Pity they are not displaying a price on-screen, like they do the F1 Digital +.

Pressing the red button on channel 433 tells us that Irish customers will be able to do that soon. I wonder when Sky Active launches here, that there will be a special deal then. Who knows!

I can see Tony's reason for asking for a credit card.
The thought that occurred to me was that , Sky were being burned and thats why they now have the "credit card required" condition mentioned on the Radio add.
Ie: to cut out the number of people who stop subscribing after 6 months or so.

Sky don't always use the current rate - in fairness to them they often use a lesser rate. One example is a fight they are currently promoting - something like £14.99 / €18.99. I can't remember the exact figures but I did a quick calculation and it was about 25% above the price.

    £14.99 would be about €24/25.

Has anyone ordered the premiership + package for next year? How much did they charge you? And can they not just stick it on your next bill (no need for CC)?

Well I tried to order P+ but the twats wouldn't let me sign up via DD. CC or DC only :( It was €64 or €63, can't remember which now. Was too disappointed with being inelegible!
