    Hi there
We are starting a new band and so far we have guitarist, bass player and singer/frontman.

We need a drummer to complete this line up, we are influenced by american rock/grunge, from pearl jam to matchbox 20. We have numerous other influences too many to mention.

If you would like to find out more or are interested at all, give me a shout mickbegley@hotmail.com

    nice one
    Mick

You'll be better off advertising locally for a drummer. Most good drummers are already in bands anyway, because there so rare compared to guitarists.

Interesting influences..... I'd really like to hear you in a few months :) You might need 2 guitarists coming from that angle though, no?

yeah we probably will need two guitarists, i have used two before, but Im just trying to get something going first. Its original stuff and i try to stay away from solos and stuff, we use the bass a lot and try to mix in acoustic guitars.
When writing I like to put in a a change rather than a solo, similar to the way the bands LIVE or matchbox twenty do.
some nice twiddly bits are always good but once it adds to the song, I dont like to put in a solo just because you dont know where the song needs to go.
I have been in bands where you get to a certain place while writing and you hear the words "then we put in a solo for 4 bars", it just seems an easy way out.
unless it suits the song or it is a guitar piece that has been running under the rhythm I dont like to add solos in.

thanks for your comments guys I will post locally for a drummer.

I'm a drummer. Apparently good :) I just left my band - The Jive Principle, BUT...and that's a big but... your description of the song writing process there sounds a bit rediculous!! Have you got any stuff recorded? Even dodgy quality. I doubt I'll be going into another band for a while, but it's good to keep options open. If you wanna hear my drumming, then go to http://www.thejiveprinciple.com and check out some of the tunes there.

    lol
sorry Dr loon, im just talking ****e dont mind me, my point is that when structuring a song its nice to not have to "fit " in a solo just because you have a good lead guitarist!

but realistically it always depends on the type of song, I will have a listen to yer stuff and give u a shout (PM) on it, if u like.

I would be interested to here what your "spin" on song writing is. Do you write stuff yourself

I don't really write stuff myself, at least I haven't done in the band I just left. I'm looking into it though.
I find your nick very interesting seeing as my nick name is Fink!! So why the someFink?
Anyway, let me know what you think...

yeah i noticed that, freaky or what. I dont know how I came up with the name, hmm, "ITS A SIGN!!!" lol

im downloading 2 of yer songs at the moment, good site by the way.
it would be interesting if you want to meet up for a pint with the lads and see what u think, we really are only looking to get something new going, If u want to have a chat over a pint and see what we think, what u reckon?

saw yer influences by the way and the bass player's influences are very similar, throw in the jackson 5 and yer laughing hehe (he will kill me )lol
here is a link to some stuff we put together in our old band, neither track is our new bass player!! he joined after these recordings, first one is about 5 years ago, second one about 3

    I'll check the stuff out.
You'll have to give me a few weeks, to sort my head out as I am pretty píssed off with the death of the band I was in, but I'll give you a shout depending on how things work out. Cheers.

had a listen to your stuff, listened to the principal tune and inside, very very good, good drumming on the principal tune during the bridge "im gonna do it again" etc,
see what i was saying about solos, that song was made for one and it was a good one, very nice tempo to the the tune.
inside is a nice song as well, very ocean colour scene and a bit beatlesy,
your right its a pity your band broke up, the same thing happened to me, you just get pissed off with not getting anywhere, bands in ireland seem to come to a certain place and thats it, nothing else after that,
    its a shame
    later
    mick
ps anyone else reading this check out the band, some good music there.

I'm a guitarist anyway and my influences are mainly dave matthews band, john mayer, howie day, ari hest, phish and a lot of jam bands from the US... I like matchbox 20 and counting crows a lot too.
So if your into many of those I'd be really happy because it'd be something different in the Dublin scene. I wish you all the best anyway.

Argh! People that don't play solos! There's nothing more boring than a song that has 2 verses and 3 choruses of a basic 3 chord loop. :o zzzZZZzzz:o

    :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Aye, but EVERY song doesn't need a solo necessarily, I know what you mean though, there's some bands that don't do solo's because the guitarist isn't accomplished enough... which is fine. they'll learn.

Anyway, if you liked those two tunes, I'd recommend Early Warning and Shcalamanga... they'd be newer tunes.... thanks for the comments :)

dutch1, since you're new I won't unleash the moderating bat, but don't go dragging up 3 year old threads, it's a very bad form.

You might have more success by posting here
