Dog Soldiers

I've always been a fan of Werewolf themed stuff and I spent far too many hours playing Altered Beast when I was younger -- "Wise fwom your gwave" etc. I wasn't expecting much but I think that Dog Soldiers is one of the best films I've seen this year.

Its a low budget B-Movie Horror film. The films set in Scotland with British actors and they all do an admirable job: the dialogue is excellent with some extremely funny jokes. The Wolves are done very nicely, you just see silouettes of them flitting through trees most of the time - none of that cheap CGI stuff that ruins most horror films. Most of the effects look great - plenty of pig intestines and bodyparts are used for gore and it all looks really convincing.

The storyline is quite simple with a few somewhat predicatable twists but carried off with enough skill to keep things very edge of the seat exciting. The scene where the sargent has his stomach cut open and intestines in his lap despertely trying to stick them back is unbelievably funny: "Christ" he says "They won't fit!"

The good thing about the film is that it manmages to inject some humour without killing the tension and making the whole thing a farce like Jeepers Creepers or anything from Wes Craven recently. Scary, well acted, excellent effects -- all in all a fine piece of entertainment.

I'm intrigued by the reviews this movie has been getting...haven't read a bad one yet! My initial reaction on seeing the trailer was: "This looks absolutely sh1te" Is it really any cop or is it just one of those 'so bad it's good' movies?

Think 'Night of the Living Dead', but with werewolves.

I really enjoyed it too. Yeah, you knew what was going to happen - but they carried it off with grace, and style, and a bag of humor.

Myself and Shinji were watching this in London on Friday, and the cinema got evacuated cos of a fire scare about 2/3's of the way thru the movie..

    Weird!

Well I have to say the clips did look dodgy but the reviews say different - might be worth a look.

The trailer was indeed ****e. Don't take that as representative of the actual movie.

BLITZ I thought I was the only one that remembered Altered Beast. That was so cool in a bad way.

Dog Soldiers is great. Really low budget, though that can be a good thing :) Acting was great, lots of blood and guts (if you're sensitive to that kind of thing, you'll be saying eww all-throughout the film.

One of my fave parts was with that guy Spoon (I think it was, the crazy loud one anyway), in the fist fight. Hehee. "They won't fit!". Funneh.

Loved it to bits. Funny as hell, great performances and a superb set of one-liners to drag out later on in the pub. Evil Dead 2 meets Aliens, with quite a few Pythonesque moments...
