In a good mood...

Does anyone know if there's a psychological reason why more people are happy and cheery in the summer time (lots of sun, blue sky!), as opposed to the dark winter?

It sounds a bit stupid at first, but think about it...what associates fun with the sun? (feck, i'm turning into a flippin' poet now!). I'm sure there's something hard fact documented somewhere about this. Psycology's probably rewarding in the fact that one will almost certainly never find the "true" meaning of what the **** people are talking about.

I mean you never see people running around, shouting "WHEHEHEHEHE! WINTER'S HERE! YAHOOOOO! LET'S GET PISSED!!"

Just a thought...I'm in a good mood at the moment...nice day out.

    Wierd.

That's how I feel in winter, I like cold weather. I like it when it rains, and I'm very happy when it snows or there's a big storm. There's too many bugs around in summer, but all the pretty girls around outside makes up for that.

well, it's like you said, you answerd your own question really, becasue not a lot of people enjoy it when it's constantly wet, cold and misreable outside, because then what you do during the day is restricted, for example when it's pitch black at 5pm on a saturday afternoon, and raining and freezeing cold outside, you cant really go to the beach and have a good time, can you?

It comes from your childhood, summer always represented freedom, getting off school for 3 months, it doesnt get dark untill 10pm, you can stay out later, play football all day in the sun etc. etc.

I just made all that up, but i think i convinsed myself there......

Yeah, sometimes I like cold weather, that's the time when you can really laze around and do nothing at all and not feel bad about it.
When the summer comes around, you can't sit in and relax, with the sun outside, shining hard, you just feel like you're wasting it.
Sometimes it's nice to be able to relax, but the summer is good.

Moods go round and round, I think, snow is a great thing to see in the winter, but so is the sun in summer, so it's hard to pinpoint the "best season" for a laugh. On the plus side, it's easier to go drinking in the winter! hehe

Good link there Mercury_Tilt - I'll be going through the slides in a few minutes

SAD has also been used as an explanation of why suicide rates are so high in the Scandanavian countries

I like summer coz you can get to look at all the scantily clad women, smuggling peanuts while having a beer in a beer garden... ahh.. like live baywatch. I love the first few days when it gets sunny and the girls wear their shortest skirts (the ones you need two haircuts for). Plus it's nice and warm, not as much rain.. ahhh.. just so relaxing. But after a while you get bored of the summer too.
