astra 19.2 on a digibox via 2nd LNB on a mindish

Has anybody added a second LNB to their mini dish in order to obtain reception of Astra 19.2 digital transmissions. As a technican I know that this is technically possible also I have read(on UK forums) of a guy in Chesire across the water that recieves both satellites and controls the LNB outputs via a coax switch. Although with the size of the mini dish I am just about on the satellite footprint boundry as I am located located on the East coast of Ireland 20Km south of Dublin.

My wife has grounded me on putting up a second dish to get Astra 19.2 so my only alternative for recieving Radio Caroline and the other 40+ FTA foreign channels on Astra 19.2 is via a second LNB on the mini dish.

All help and experience in this matter is appreciated!!!

Ask any sat installer and they will say no chance.. I know its possible to do it but i dont think so with the sky dish.. for one thing its too small and for another i think you would need a new lnb bracket as it only supports one LNB... I just got a second dish myself and had no problems!

I would suggest replacing the minidish with an 80cm dish with two lnb's and brackets.

Thanks Tony and Mr.signature for your replies.

I know that I am perhaps expecting too much from the mindish! However on the Radio Caroline web site tech info they reckon that the mini dish is capable of Astra 19.2 reception.

I need a volunteer with a low positioned dish (for access) to do some research and development for the public. If it was possible thing of all the extra LNBs and bracket that would be sold!

Well yes it is if it's pointed straight at 19.2. Bear in mind that different signal strenths apply to different area's and even different transponders vary in strength.

If you have an analogue reciever it is quite easy. Connect your reciever up to the lnb and tune it to the frequency of a clear analogue channel that you can recognise and move the dish around slowly until you see a picture, if you start at about 20 degrees east of south you should get it. It took me a while the first time I aligned one, but I got it eventually. The best guide is to look at the direction of other dishes in the area, remember a minidish is only 10 degrees west so as a rough guide they are useful.

ya but for netsystem il need a digital dish, go a second hand dish of a friend , but dont know if it has a universal LNB and i still need to get a bracket, il be putting the dish up beside a sky minidish so that might be a good indicator.

Well if it's gonna be beside minidish you shouldn't have too many probs. Astra will be bit more to right of minidish with slightly higher elevation. It should say on LNB if it is Universal/Digital. If dish is relatively new, it possibly is.
