i recently bought myself a marantz sr4200 av reciever, a marantz cd4000 and a pair of jpw ml 710i speakers, and have the cd player and amp connected with a digital coaxial interconnect, but i have been told and have read articles on the web that say that digital is flawed and using analogue connects are better.

    what are your opinions ?

its not really down to the cable, more the digital to analog conversion process itself and any adverse effects it may have on the produced sound quality.

    theres a quick paper onhttp://www.std.com.tr/bilgi/
about analog versus digital and the affects that jitter (a delay in the transition of a digital bits state) cause to the output sound.

audio-digital cables themselves are usually of high quality (75ohms), anything that isnt could result in loss of quality... but as mentioned above more errors occur in the conversion than the carrying of the signal.

forgot the "your opinion" bit :)

anyway imo.. you should look at getting a decent analog interconnect, look for something about the 40 quid mark to start with, your kit instantly looks llike a richersounds setup, and they should replace a cable for you if you dont particularly like the sound of it (and if your nice about it!).. make sure to test the two cables (digital and analog) yourself with a variety of music...
    and...
what speaker cable have you got?
did you just buy that combo as a stereo setup or a home cinema setup?
whats the range on those 710s?

yeah, i had read a few of the articles on jitter, but they were a bit vague about which ws better in the end.

the speaker cable i got was gale xl 160 - 2.

at the moment its only used for stereo but i plan on using it for home cinema soon, theres just no space in the tv room at the moment.

yes i did get it in richer sounds, is there any where else as good ?

the only place i could find specs on the speakers are here
http://www.baac.dk/jpw.specs/ml710i.html as the jpw.co.uk website doesnt seem to work.

I'm using the Sr 7200 with a pioneer dv646A connected via a dig co ax lead.
Trust me, whoever told you that using a dig co ax connection is flawed is talking nonsense.
It's far better than any analog connection.
    And I've used both.
