Richard Dunne and Lee Carsley!!?? cmon, even viewing them as squad players surely Doherty and Delap wouldve been better choices.

Kennedy, Breen and Dunne. I wouldn't have them in a business league. And you'd want to put an elastic band on Ian Harte as he seems to get lost very easily when he goes forward.

    Mick ,

You got us to the WC, so youre entitled to make this deicision, but FFS Kennedy??

He hasnt had a good club season, he hasnt performed in a green shirt .. what does he have to do to get dropped?

cunning, Micks plan is to use Carsleys head as a giant reflector dish to dazzle the cameroon players. theres no other explanation.

    Carsley - AARRRRGGGHHHH Noooooo!!!

    Kennedy - ARRRGRGRGHRHRHRRR - Why ?????

The rest of the squad is fine, I mean at least Honey Monster can score a few.

Jesus Healy and Reid are light years ahead of those Donkeys.

    Gandalf.

i would have thought Doherty would get the nod because of his multitasking abilities. Im yet to be convinced of O brien, altho i havent seen much of newcastle this year.

Sods Law dictates that Mark Kennedy will score a hat trick
against Germany and put Ireland into the second round...

Ugh... the thought of Lee Carsley playing on a world stage is LAUGHABLE, especially when McCarthy has people like Delap at his disposal.

McCarthys was right to pick the squad he did. It's fairer to bring the players who did the work to get us there than to bring too many players who've just joined the panel. Even as things stand people are only complaining about one or two players and the general concensious is that the squad is just about right.

Healy, Doherty and others will get their chance to shine in the future.

it could have been a lot worse

What part exactly did carsley play in the qualifying series? Or Kennedy for that matter. They were fringe at best - out in the cold at worst. I absolutly agree with sticking with the players who stepped up to the plate and performed (Dunne being a name that comes to mind) but these two? pfft.

Too right. Lee Carsley is total muck, and Mark Kennedy - Christ!! Anyway, hopefully they'll get left out unless a severe emergency crops up, and the real players will be in the team :)

    Everyone seems stuck on 2.
Mine are Reid for kennedy and Docherty for Carsley.
    For simple attacking reasons.
Reid and Duff ont he wings with Keane mad Morrision up front would be as near an attacking side as we have ever had.
" Come On Kennedy JUMP DEM CARZ"
hehehe thats all we need him and Carsley car jumping and we got our best squad.

i can just see it now McAteer getting injured in the 1st game, so Kennedy takes his place on the right wing against Germany. aaarrrrgghhhhh

Carsley and Kennedy did not contribute enough to the qualifers to automatically earn their places.

McCarthy is right to stick with the players that won qualification but Healy and Sadlier would have added something a little bit different if taken.

What if we are 1-0 to Germany and need to find a goal. Surely Healy or Sadlier would be more useful that the other two. Carsley is a holding midfielder and is also fourth choice after Keane, Kinsella and Holland. Kennedy is just crap.

You're right about Kennedy, he had a good season but one that was curtailed somewhat by injury.

As for Dunne he's the team mascot is'nt he? :D

I love the way you are arguing a case for a guy who can't even get his game at Celtic and a forward who's been injured for a 1st div nationwide team. I'm glad you , and the rest of the people on this thread aren't picking the squad.

Mick has always got performances out of his players far beyond what they do for their clubs and this is because he is a brilliant man manager so when brings carsley, dunne and kennedy to the w.c it will prob work out cos they'll all wanna repay his faith and give everything

Mr.McCarthy did say those who got us there would go there;so who are we to argue?any of the young guns are a bit too young and inexpierenced.besides,if you think about it did you even think we were actually going to go before the game in amsterdam??????no, i didn't think so. so who cares whose in the squad?we are there and that is all that counts.

I don't exactly think McCarthy is a great man manager. He qualified for a major tournament at the third time of asking, signed as contract before failing the second time, and has set bad examples for his players. Think of the time when Robbie Keane got booked for dissent against Turkey and missed the second leg, McCarthy was seen losing the head at the same time. Think of giving somebody their international debut in the last minute against Macedonia.
Its great that McCarthy has got us to the WC, but people need to be realistic. The inclusion of Dunne is fully justified in my opinion, but Carsley will not come in handy under any circumstances that I can think of. Kennedy I would't really argue with. I thought Phil Babb might have been worth a look, obviously the Portuguese league is not great, but from what you see of him on Eurogoals, he seems to be keeping a lot of handy forwards fairly quiet, and overall the move abroad has probably matured him as a person.
    But then again,
the Premiership is the best league in the world and anyone who doesn't play in England (note English Division 1 is the 2nd best league in the world) must be useless. Sure what kind of players have ever played in the Portuguese league?! Luis Figo - never heard of him. This would probably be Mick's response. I think Babb should at least be tried out in the Nigeria friendly, he has played in 27 of Sporting's 34 league games and been a rock, an important reason why they won the league.

I have to say after thinking about it, Mick has picked a team that has experienced team. All the players are hard workers, and will do a good job when required...

compared to our English friends…. They have picked full-backs with only a few caps between them (Mills, Cole, Bridge and Brown), the midfield that hasnt got any back up with experience…… experience counts...

we wouldnt have been here if it wasnt for stevie staunton at the back

I have to agree with bateman on the Carsley and Babb points.

    why doubt Mick now.....?
