USA Work-> Camp Counselor

    I'm think about going to America for the summer of 2003 with a few friends, we saw an application for Camp Counselors through USIT.

    the idea is you go over to America, flights paid for, and work at these summer camps that the americans have. its quite cool. as i said flights are paid for but also you get your meals and a place to stay. the only downfall is the pay isnt great. you get a couple of hundred quid after 6-8 weeks of work. but then the rest of the summer is yours to do what ever you want.

    what i am wondering is has anyone here gone to america for the Camp Counselor job or do you know of anyone that went and if so what was it like.

    any info would be great, thanks

    Never gone to America to do it BUT i have done it here for American companies so basically the same thing! Its a lot of fun thats all i can say.. though you need a lot of patience.. we are talking kids here after all. If needs be just thrown the muppets in the lake (always a lake handy on these camps!)

    My SO did this a few years ago, and considers it to be one of the best things she's ever done. She meet a load of people from all over the world, and the states. When her 6-8 weeks were up, she went travelling with the people she met in camp. And took up inventations from the America councellers to vist them (in New York and Boston).

    She has since remained good friends with them and has been back to stay a couple of times. This has been particularly useful in New York (where the hotel bills are crazy), plus it's always good to have a native show you around.

    Well worth it if you want to travel, but if you interestedin earning a lot of money, or drinking a lot of beer, then I dont think it will be quite for you.

    i dont mind being with out beer for 6-8 weeks. i applied for this two years ago but i missed the deadline by a few days :( but the oppurtunity is back again. i will have my diploma next may (hopefully :p ) and i would like to go over to the states and do this.

    there would be a few of use going. we are not worried about the drinking part. that can be done after the 6-8 weeks are over :p .... dont really care about the money, started months ago saving up for next summer, i definitly wont be broke going out there... could try to get another job somewhere when finished in the camp thingy.

    I tell ya go for it man.

    You'll have a ball out there. In fact I wouldn't mind going myself,
    I wanna hear the details bout this, I might even apply for it myself, I plan on going to the states anyway when we have the diploma done.

    The only thing is I'd probably be going crazy for drink, but I have gone 6-8 weeks before with out drink (just take my word for it), when ya say the money is poor how poor? surely they'll have to pay ya enough to life on out there.

    Details at lunch tomorrow please, if we dont speak before then.
