Just got this in an email, it works in my Siemens M35 i anyway, try it yourself:

Wonder why Telstra, Orange, Vodaphone,Telecom have not let this one out of the bag... wouldn't mean that they would lose profit would it??

To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following on your phone:
star hash zero six hash as (*#06#)
A 15 digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your hand set.Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. Should your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your hand set so even if the thief changes the Sim card your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it, can't use/sell it either. If everybody did this, there would be no point in stealing mobile phones.

If there is no reason to steal mobile phones, then mobile phones wont be stolen. Then they cant sell new phones to people who had their phone stolen....

P.s. I'm going to do that...the code works in my Nokia 3310.

some of the newer phones have a SIM lock on them, you can't put another SIM card into them so there's no point in stealing it although I'm pretty sure there are ways to unlock this...
but at least it's a start...

*#06# will work for Nokia phones only. You can get more of these codes on my boards site or on the Wireless Board.

No can do with the newer (4 year or less) phones - EVEN WITH A CABLE AND THE SOFTWARE! - coded hard into new phones

FOR SOFTWARE TO UNLOCK STOLEN PHONES try here - THIS WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO UNLOCK PHONES WHOS IEMI HAS BEEN BLOCKED - EVEN IF THE PHONE WAS STOLEN IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY!

I PROVIDE THIS INFO AS AN INCENTIVE FOR PEOPLE TO REPORT THE IEMI # OF THEIR STOLEN PHONES - If everybody did there would be no point setaling them

it can be done.... there was a documentry about it (of all bloody things  ) on TV a few months ago.... people had stalls in a market selling mobile phone covers etc but some of them did extra work if you wanted. they would unlock the phone for £20. it only took a few minutes..... no matter how safe you think your phone is, there is always a way to break any code....

The ad's you see for unlocking phones is only to remove the firmware lock which locks it to a specific SIM/ Nework etc.

There are 4 of these locks all of which can be broken.

The IMEI, howerve CANNOT be changed ON MOST PHONES. Report this # to the network and the thief has a $300 piece of junk on there hands

As tribble has already stated it works on all gsm phones, and like i said in the thread start it works in my siemens.

Alsoo it is easily possible to unlock a sim card from a phone, a friend of mine did it for my siemens phone.
I dont know if its illegal or not but i say it is.
The phone was NOT stolen, it was a free phone that i got at the beginning of the college year for a certain P.O.S network which doesnt cover where i am for the most part of the year.
    Hence the unlockage.

    UNLOCKING PHONES IS NOT ILLIGAL.

Reagy-to-go type phones carry no contract.

Unlocking them is like unlocking your AMD processor.
    1. will invalidate your warrenty
    2. will allow you to fully utilise your purchase

you maks the choice - chances of something going wrong on any phone is low (although if you have a brand new one WAIT AT LEAST 4/5 months to allow the Software to be BUG TESTED for incompatabilities)
personally i don't offer the service 'cos i don't have the motovation - and the last poster who said he did got banned by the Muppet Moderators .

Do it yourself - it is easy (DISCLAIMER - do not do this)
Pick up the cable from the phone shop just up from Virgin on the quays. (dublin)
    Get the software from here

Doesnt work on my panasonic... but i'm not bothered, i've a 4 digit phone lock seperate to the pin lock that means no one can really get into the phone anyway :)

Smiles - are you sure you type it correctly - you may have to hit dial...

Your 4 digit phonelock would take me 30 seconds...:)

(it's software which is easy - the pinlock is harder firmware take,say... 60seconds:) )

the imei code can be found on the back of your phone, just take the batery off and its the 15 digit serial number with the 3 slashes

Your IMEI is already known by your service provider. When you ring up to cancel your SIM, they'll block the IMEI too (provided they have your right info).

    :)
