OK, so we can all look at this thread later and realise what Mystic Mugs we were, how's about some predictions for tonights Ireland-USA game? And, more importantly, some predictions for the headlines in tomorrows sports pages?

I will go for a 3-1 to Ireland with headlines assuming the "Yanks spanked by (insert name of man of the match here)" style or, if it's a 0-0 draw: "Ground Zero at Lansdowne"

USA are by no means a bad team(there ranked 13th i think) so im gonna put my 2cent on a 2-2 scoreline

I would say 2-0 to Ireland

I reckon 3-0 to Ireland, but it'll be no great disaster if we lose. We need to be brought back down to earth before the world cup, our last competitive performance away to Iran was pathetic, the Nigeria game will be a genuinely tough one, I wouldn't count on the US giving us a very tough time at all really.

I would say 1-0 to Ireland or 1-1. The USA are a good team but when the customary 389 substitutions are made no doubt the game will become scrappy.

They're also not that good. We beat Denmark 3-0 an they a re a far better team than the US. I reckon 2-0.

Ah sure if you think denmark is better than USA surely ireland will beat USA by more than the 3-0 result of ireland v denmark

and why are USA not that good?

The last thing we can afford to do is to start under estimating teams ability!!! The U.S are a very talented team!!! I'd say 2-1 to Ireland but a draw or a defeat wouldnt surprise me!!!

    1-1 or 0-0

The US have a very good team and they really want to win this game tonight.

    Gandalf.

I reckon that it will be the usual farcical friendly match with ireland bringing on half the crowd and the chap outside selling the hotdogs!!!

no i cant see either side risking any i portant players - but maybe the fringe players will be out to impress!!!

A win's a win. The pitch meant that it would be foolish to read into this match really.

And the U.S are a crap team. [SERMON]They get to the world cup because it's practically rigged for them to do so, big ole market the US, you know? They got to the upcoming world cup after engaging in titanic struggles with the giants of the america's football world, i.e costa rica, and other countries who teams are probably malnourished due to their bigger neighbours ideas on free trade :) Didn't they lose 2-0 to Costa Rica in qualifying? I'm sure their results hold more hilarity, only I'm not bothered looking. The World rankings are a complete and utter joke, and the U.S ranking 13th merely confirms it.[/SERMON]

The pitch was so bad the match was a waste of time. And what was McCarthy smoking when he started going on about Colin Healy playing well, or did I mishear him?
