    help!!!!!!!!!!!

i subscribe to sky world and get everything except BBC1.
it gives me a "this programme not available" message.
i do get BBC2, no problems.
    i also get all the ITV1 chanels, ITV2, C4, C5, BBC4 under other channels.
i've tried forcing a download of the software but it didn't help.

    any suggestions?
    does everyone else get ITV1, ITV2, C4 & C5 in other channels?

i'm not keen on phoning SKY to get them to fix the problem if it means i lose ITV1, ITV2, C4 & C5.

I presume you are living in ROI
If so you are very lucky indeed? Are u receiving RTE tests aswell ?
There was a topic on this sort of thing a few months ago. Some people had itv but no sky one or something like that. I think it has got to do with the way your box was setup by the installer. Did he ask you if you wanted itv. i heard this was the case with a few people. Unfortunately it was not mentioned on this this forum how it was done.
Hopefully we can reopen the issue and find out. This would be a huge breakthrough.

Does anybody know how it was done?

It appears from your post that your card is a bit confused!!
I would ring Sky and ask them to activate BBC 1 NI on 214.
But under no circumstances mention the other channels , like ITV 2 etc and see what happens.
There probably are others who have cards just as confused as yours, but they may not know about it as only some people are aware of how to tune in "other channels"

My thinking is that if you leave the Digibox on 214 and explain that the problem is just on 214-then they will just send a command to activate that channel-They will have your details on screen and therefore know that 214 should be live with BBC 1 NI.
If you go that route there is the risk that they will ask you to download the latest software for the EPG, which might have the effect of un-doing your "miracle" other channels facility.
In that case tell them, that you are ringing from work and that some person at home is doing it for you and you can't for the moment and that they wouldn't know how etc, etc and that they must send the 214 command now... etc

    Skorn,

Before you go ringing Sky, have you tried to tune in the other versions of BBC1 through your other channels. The frequency details are 11720 H 27500 2/3 (England) and 11798 H 27500 2/3 (Wales and Scotland).

It sounds like your box is a confused UK box. All BBC2 regions are available in the UK which is why your BBC2 is working.

Let us know hw you get on.

    I agree with Shane.

    Don't ring Sky yet.

Check the BBC 1 frequencies on Lyngsat at

    http://www.lyngsat.com/dig/skyuk.shtml

and try them all. I'd imagine one of them will work and you can keep it in "Other Channels". Also try tuning in all the digital exclusive Beebs (ie BBC Choice, 4, News 24 etc).

The only problem with this is that the Irish channels may not be available to you from next Tuesday. Have you tried tuning them in on "Add Channels" ?

If you're happy enough to watch the Irish channels on analogue, then I'd say you're better off sticking with what you have.

If you call Sky, you really don't know what the outcome might be.

On a UK card anyway... Services 4-0-1 Select, then "New Installation" is supposed to activate BBC 1

Agreed. I made that mistake to get BBC1 and lost BBC Choice and whatever.Get a BBC card if that bothered, but dont give sky the idea that you have more than you should. After all its poor value for money based on the amount of adverts in between programs.....

    Enjoy!

    thanks for all the replies

none of the BBC1 chanels work (NI, Scot, Wales, UK)
i do get BBC Choice, World, 4, CBBC, CBeebies

don't think i'll be calling sky, don't want to rise loosing the ITV's

    not too sure about trying the Services -> 4 -> 0 -> 1 -> New Installation route.

where do i get a BBC card from?

Can you get RTE 1, Network 2, TV3 this evening on that card? They should be on any ROI card at moment.
Also do you get the Irish Sky news or UK one with the capital letter "ACTIVE" button and Uk ads.

I wonder what would happen if you got a mirror subscription(when available) in this case.
If they activated the new card it might behave like a normal Irish sub card and then you would have the best of both worlds:)
As every one else says here though, they'd probably signal your first card aswell so too risky I suppose:(
    Interesting experiment though.

By the way Skorn-which version of Sky one do you have?? , the one with the Irish adds or the English one??

This sounds good if your getting roi skynews and all. I would gladly dump BBC1 for CH4 reception and BBC Choice and N42 etc. Absolutly Enjoy!

I think you should win some kind of prize for having the strangest card anyone has ever heard of !!

What kind of subscription do you have ? Do you get Movies/Sports ?

    skorn,

There have been a few threads dealing with this previously. Check out http://troll.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=37638

It should prove to be helpful.

    thanks Mr Slane.

just thought i'd add that when the technician came round to install the Sky i had no tv or tel line in the house.
when i connected it to the tv i couldn't access any of the chanels so i called sky and asked them to activate them and after an hour or so everything but BBC1 was on.
don't know if this had anything to do with it though.

PS i've also never connected the digibox to a phoneline.
