card update problem

I have an english sky digital card from a cancelled sub.Everything was paid up to date so the ftv channels should be still ok.The problem is that the card has not been used for a while so now it has to be autherised again.
I do not want to have to call to autherise the card
Is it possible that the card will become valid again by leaving it in the box//If yes then how long should i expect to wait.
What are the risks by calling bbc and giving them a false postcode in same region i got the card and ask them to update card,or is it that there only sky cards can be done by sky
Hoping someone has some good ideas

It has been mentioned here that sometimes the FTV cards become blocked if they are not used for a while. Leaving them in a digibox overnight re-activates them. I would expect that this is the case with ex Sky contract cards.

    Oh dear.

Unless someone knows better, I would suggest getting a new FTV card.

    Shane

I'll be going on holidays in the next month or so for two weeks.
I have a UK Box/FTV Sky Card(just bbc channels). Can I switch off for the two weeks or should I leave it on standby.
What do u think...Is there a risk of losing channels

As I said above, people have reported that they have temporarily lost their FTV channels if the card has been out of the box for a while (the equivalent of the box being switched off). They have reported that putting the card in for a few hours, or overnight, restores all channels.

Are you not going to record anything while you are away ?

Hi Seano, The card is registered to a particular address which the call centre will most likely ask you for, do you know where the card came from?

I don't think it makes a difference whether or not the box is on or in standby.

What message are you seeing when you try and watch the FTV channels?

    Is the full EPG viewable?

Unless you have exact address details it could be tricky to get Sky to reactivate the card.

Hi Seano, I'm afriad this card does not appear on Sky's database, I was hoping it was a subscriber card which had lapsed.

    Sorry

does that mean the card is worthless or can i call and get it registered again with bbc for an false address i ni without them sending out new info etc

Seano, was this card ever working? It sounds as if it is a regular FTV card that has never been activated. To activate it you must have the address of where the card was sent to in the UK.

The card has worked. Is an ex fully paid sub
Got it for free so there is no reason for me not
    to believe the guy
I think it is a lost cause so i would hereby like to thank tony and shane for the help
I will let you all know how it turns out

I got the same message once on my card but when I switched of the reciever at the mains and re-booted the card worked fine again. If you have not done this already it could be worth a try

by rebooting i guess you mean remating
    I have remated it twice

    Seano

14 Months ago I bought a box/card on ebay , when I plugged it in no BBC/CH4/CH5 were working so I packed it away !
but when reading your post yesterday I plugged it back in , Within an Hour ITV appeared and by leaving it in overnight all the BBC's/CH4/CH5 have reappeared with no intervention from Sky ,
Did you get the box/card together or did the card come on its own
beacuse if this was the case it will never work !

PS Thanks to Tony who was able to get the contact details for the previous owner of my card ! But in the end they were not needed
