    No. Absolutly not. Ever.

I remember USA 94 as well. I remember McGrath being one of the best defenders in the world and almost singlehandlely stopping the Italian forward line. Oh, there was some other bloke near him too......

I heard he's playing great stuff in Portugal alright but I don't think he'll play any part in Japan and Korea. On paper the middle of defence seems to be our weak spot but Staunton, Cunningham, Breen, Dunne, O'Brien and O'Shea are probably all ahead of him at the moment and McCarthy will only bring four of these.

Babb should never return 2 an irish shirt
and if he does he should castrate himself
properly on a goalpost ....between that
incident and his defending i dont know
    which is funnier......

Thats actually not funny Mthor5, but I bet it would be if it happened to you.

Babb's a good player, but I dont think he'll get a look in. What team is he playing for in Portugal and what division is it in?

"phil babb is a good player"

is this the same phil "starsky & hutch" babb were talking
about?....he has a decent world cup in 94 much 2 do with
playing alongside paul mcgrath....then liverpool sign him
up for 3.4 million and he plays below par ,sometimes brutall
for the next few years.......after this no one will touch him
in the premiership so he moves 2 a substandard portugeese
    league...........
...as for my earlier post .....i was refering 2 an incident during
an ireland or liverpool match..(cant remember)..but babb actually made a goal saving clearance but clattered the post with his
goolies....he was ok after 5 mins but it was quite funny...and no i
    wouldnt wish that on anyone!!!
...should babb play for ireland again?...i think he shot himself in
the foot with his starsky and hutch impression on a coppers car
...as staunton and cunningham seem 2 have the positions claimed now with breen ,o'brien and dunne as backup + u
cant overlook o 'shea as well

In all fairness Bhill Pabb doesn;t have a chance in making the Ireland squad for Japan and South Korea.

I agree Phil babb should return......

Im a liverpool supporter and I believe that Liverpool wrecked his career, just like it wrecked Mark Kennedys and Jason McAteers. Now theses players are playing better football...... and are going to the World Cup.

At Sporting, he is playing at Left back.

I hope that Duff doesnt join Liverpool..... for his careers sake......

Thats a good point Mr. Fox.

The only way I can see Babb getting on the team is if one of Micks defenders like Dunne, Breen, Cunningham, Doherty, Kelly, Harte, Finnan, Staunton O' Brien and O' Shea get injured. Thats a big if. Not to mention other players and international outsiders also hoping to make the trip, theirs alot to fight for.

I think if we look a Jason Mcateer, Babbs friend and former team mate we can see how it might be possible to get back into the green shirt. Mcateer also joined Liverpool but couldnt compete for his place. His form went below standard and hence, he lost his place. 1998, he moves to Blackburn. Despite the fact he plays mostly with the reserves he gets the go for the Holland match in Amsterdam.

He scores one goal, and assists in the other. Jason Mcateer went on to score the goal that really got us through to Japan and South Korea in the next meeting between Ireland and Holland. After that match, McCarthy went on TV and I quote "It's a shame that a player like Mcateer cannot get first team football, his brilliant".

Both Babb and Mcateer are great players, and if Jason could fight his way back, then I'm sure Babb can impress, but i fear thats not that problem.

I think if Babb didnt make such a fool of himself only days before the first match by getting arrested for intoxication with Mark Kennedy in Dublin City he might stand a chance. He got dropped from the squad for that, and perhaps McCarthy is holding a gruge?

I'd put money McCarthy isnt even watching him in Portugal, his got "his men" and thats that. Babbs good, his got his form on obviously, seems to be a case of too little too late. (Or just too late)

I wonder if Babb is even being called up for training with the national side?

IMO Staunton and Cunningham are 1 & 2 then Babb, McCarthy's holding an unfair grudge I think, I'd rather see him in there before that Kennedy.

someone metioned that he is playing left back.how about using him there?as to the starsky and hutch issue, kennedy is in the good books again isn't he.he is no paul mcgrath (babb that is) but i think he is more aware than breen or or dunne ,however much these players remind mick of his glory days.i must also say this is the only case in micks time as manager that he can be accused of treating one of his players indifferently, and maybe the divide might be about more than hopping on a car.finally i crushed my nuts off the handlebars of my bike.i had a set of very sore dried prunes for a month:not very funny(for me anyway)

Phil Babb is $hite, he isn't good enough to get into this Ireland squad. I agree that Gary Breen is also rubbish, but he's still better than Babb.

Just cast your mind back to some of Babb's performances after McGrath retired, and relive the horror.

I think Babb has(hopefully)realised that Football is his game, and his going to make a brave attempt at it at Lisbon. His been ****ing around for a long time.

I suppose for many of you reading this, it's hard to reason why I have such high opinions of a player who let himself waste away at Liverpool, the only reason he continued to exist there was because Mr. Evans payed so much for him, and was determined to get something out of him.

It didnt work out for him at Liverpool, because Babb seems to be best situated to a uncomplicated, easy game. 3-5-2 without the likes of Paul McGrath? He had to work hard, and he didnt.

Roy Evans left, and Houllier came in charge of the realm. In that season of 97/98, a few fine performences were seen by the Lambeth Lad, but it still wasnt good enough. Houllier made it quite clear he was axing the dead wood. But Babb didnt go, despite the fact he wasnt even getting first or reserve team football. He just stayed and picked up his pay cheque.

What was going through his mind I wonder? I've always liked Babb for some strange reason, but the lad didnt even have the professional pride to try get another place on a different team. He let whatever talent he had waste away.

He went on load to Tranmere, and his play was so diabolical it wasnt long before he went back to Anfield. He also developed a nice beer belly around this time.

He then lost his Irish place after the Dublin incident. Why am I telling Babbs history? Why do I seem to be standing up for him? I had(once)alot of faith in him, his let me down though. Forget getting called up for Ireland, Babbs main task is to bust his way into the Lisbon first team.

His not ****e, he has potential, I hope to **** his not wasting it sitting in the sun of Portugal knocking back Bruskies.

I think he stayed at Anfield to leave on a Bosman. which has proved a good move.

He played well at Tranmere, why do ya think they wanted him to stay for the Worthington Cup final(quite shocking I remember this)

I don't think you have very good sources and he IS in the first team now
