I saw this movie the other day and I would just like to say WOW!I loved this film and was expecting this to be not even half as good as the original but it surpassed it.The action is excellent in this and the fight between Nomak and Blade is brilliant.:)

I didn't really like the original. I thought it was kind of stupid. Anyone from the same school of thought as me see it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,275 ✭✭✭Shinji

Heh, if you disliked the original for being "stupid" you're going to hate this one.

It's got an utterly ridiculous plot, a slew of one-liners and random scenes which are only there to pad out the action sequences. Fast editing, mad camera movement and music-video style direction... It's a comic book film, and proud of it.

It's also, in my opinion, a hell of a lot of fun. Just don't expect to come out of it questioning your existence or pondering the deeper things in life. :)

havent seen it yet, but i need to know one thing. how do they bring whistler back?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 722 ✭✭✭Drunk pirate

Whistler was tortured for a couple o' years and blade found em. I thought the film wAS.....mmm OK.....The first one was better but the fight scenes are much better in 2. It's hard to define reality from pc graphics

I thought it was absolutely excellent. A lot better than the original in many respects. Goddammit I wish I was that cool. Also the direction and cinematography was far better. This was probably the best use of bullet time yet.

When i seen part one i wondered why it was 18`s.
And when i saw 2 was 18`s as well i was a bit miffed then i saw it .
And Mr censor dude got it right .
Gory as hell ,no plot as such and cracking fighting and action scenes .And Mr Bros does a good job as the bad guy .
Cant wait for part 3 now .

How did Whistler come back?! He shot himself!

    Pretty sweet movie.

    A truely excellent film :)

Didnt like this film at all, it was a desperate attempt to make a bit more money out of the popularity of the first film. They even use a mix of New orders Confusion in a nightclub scence in II! I wouldnt say avoid it at all costs, but unless your very easily pleased, you'll be disappointed if you spend money on it. On the whistler thing, he turned vamp and was kept in stasis for a couple of years till Blade could come rescue him and cure him. The film seemed to start off with that as the the direction the film would take, but early in production they descided it wasnt gonna work so hurridley came up with another storyline, that didnt work to well itself. Anyone else get this impression??

    It was like so: good.

Completely brainless but the fight scenes are unrivalled.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,538 ✭✭✭PiE

But he SHOT himself to STOP himself becoming a vampire! And yet there he is, vampirified? I don't geddit..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 895 ✭✭✭imp

I think he had already been bitten when Blade got to him, and he shot himself to stop his turning from being completed, but he was too late.

    Just a thought.

Saw it tonight, liked it. On the way out some girl behind me complained that it didn't have a good plot. C'mon girl, its not gunning for Oscars here.

I like Guillermo Del Toros films anyway, the Devils Backbone was really good. It was good but it was very videogame like in some bits.

The start was ****, the end was better than part one, the meeting with the messengers from the vampire nation was really really good. They should have developed the bloodpacks abilities a bit more.

If they do make part 3 and do it the way David S. Goyer wants it, it may turn out to be the best one. However it may seem crap if "I am Legend" comes out first.

T'was excellent, but no where near as good as the first one.. The first one was stylish, sexy, violant, and very Vampirish.. This was a little too Goulish for my tastes.. Having said that, I'd go and see it again.. Blade, no matter how hard he tries to suck, will always rock.

Saw it tonight and I thought it was great plenty of fight scenes good cg and camra work, as for the story line I thought it was orignal and the blood pack was pretty good if under used. Is it just me or did preist have an Irish accent?

anyone notice how the blood looked real in blade2....where as in blade1 it looked naff?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 764 ✭✭✭Terminator

Am I the only one who thought this movie sucked?

The only good thing was Ron Perlman - everything else was rehashed, boring - looked like a overlong backstreet boys video.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,538 ✭✭✭PiE

Ok, so he shoots himself too late, and turns into a vamp. I'll accept that, even though if this was true they should have shown it in the flashback Blade has. BUT! Why do they go to the trouble of taking him and putting him in stasis for two years? Why do the vampires give a damn about Whistler?!

This is the only thing that bothered me about the film :]

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,025 ✭✭✭yellum

If Del Toro does use Perlman for Hellboy it'll rock.

Jesus Christ PiE, suspension of disbelief please. Whistler was his weakness, the vamps said so themselves.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,538 ✭✭✭PiE

Obviously he wasnt as he took him back relatively easily! :p

Ok ok fine I'll drop it :)

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 933 ✭✭✭dardoz

it would have made sense if they actually used Whistler as a trap, but they didnt have him well guarded at all, so in fairness it made no sense them keeping him alive

I thought the fight scene with the chick and the other guy in the ninja suits rocked and some of the sword fights. But the end fightscene was majorly disappointing

What was the story with all the wrestling moves ?

Anyway it was good for a laugh except for the fact that light could bounce corners I didn't like that I thought at that moment they were dead but they just ignored reality for a second and killed all the bad guys.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,825 ✭✭✭Gambler

HeHe, I have to say, I have already seen this film twice.. The big thing is you have to be able to suspend your disbelief or it just doesn't work. As Shinji said it is a comic book film and proud of it. Probably the best comic book film to date in my opinion (That will probably only last until may.. Spiderman Rulerz o.k.) Batman one is good, but I think Blade 2 managed to stay a lot closer to the style of Comic books.

For Example, The wrestling moves.. Comic books have always had a tendency to have little nods to other things in them... i.e. if you have ever read the DareDevil Remake that Kevin Smith did, there are references to Loads of stuff he has been involved with (Mostly references to Jay and Silent Bob of course) and in the film it is fairly obvious to me that someone involved in it is probably quite a Wrestling fan (or quite possibly they knew anyone that is a wrestling fan who sees this movie is likely to tell all their wrestling mates to go see the movie.. Am I cynical or realistic? you be the judge :))

Anywho, this is turning into quite a rant, sorry all.

Basically, the film rocks, you just have to take in the context it was created in :)

None of my friends want to see it, and I dont really want to go to the cinema by myself so that is annoying me.
Is Dr. Karen Jensen (sp?) in this one too?

Well, she gets ripped apart by vamps in the first 2 minutes so NO ! I'm kidding but she ain't in it.

Dont take it seriously and its good fun! However the CGI in some of the fight scenes was VERY BAD!

Was one of the vampires in the Bloodpack (the ninja guy with the ninja girl) once Cat from Red Dwarf, or was I just imagining things?

The CGI was bad?!?! You have to realise that they are vamps, they aren't SUPPOSED to move like Humans.. Also take into consideration any other time you have seen a fight seen done COMPLETELY in CGI (I don't think I ever have) and it looks good.. Reminds me of the trailer for spiderman when spidey is swinging over the cars..

    And...

It was entertaining. Not as good as the first one imho. Still it did maintain the slick stylish atmosphere. Plot and story line left a bit to be desired, but could have been a lot worse.

I did feel the ending was a bit low-power tho...

Got round to seeing it just a while ago, I think it was an excellant film, it was really fast, I'm sure some pratice had to be done for that!

I also thought it was quite 'matrix' style film

They are just trying to milk some more money out of it.

Great action film IMO, loads of really excellent fight scenes, I loved the one at the start particularly. The plot was a bit naff and didn't really fit, but I honestly didn't care, it wasn't so bad that it detracted from the action scenes at all so I'm happy.

I thought it was better than Blade 1, felt a lot "cooler" to me and there are some genuinely funny one-liners, also I liked the wrestling moves, even though I'm not a wrestling fan at all, they made me shift in my seat and go "ouch".

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,590 ✭✭✭lordsippa

    The film was fun.

The plot was stupid. The dialogue sucked. The acting was terrible. In fact it defies logic how it was good... unless you see it. It's just one of those hideously bad films (on paper) that is actually surprisingly cool.

Oh and on the Whistler thing:
1). He had been turned and was dying so killing himself merely sped up the process.
2). They kept him in a container not to lure Blade, but simply because he hated them as much as blade and was hence a threat and also had had a pretty nasty history with them (he made blade who he was remember).
3). He was a weakness to Blade only as a human (blade would have been willing to sacrafice him if he was a well developed vampire fighting against him), hence when they needed a weakness they let blade track him down and free him.

    It all makes sense.

The film itself (taking it for what it was intended) was fun. A dark comic book heroic tale, with all the fun and games that go with superpowers.

As a sequel I thought it worked ok, not brilliantly, but ok. I think I'll be collecting it for the DVD list when it comes out all the same.

The one thing that pissed me off bigstyle was the two crappy CGI scenes. I know there was a lot of CGI used in fight scenes, but the beauty of this was that you (as an audience member) didn't see it. It was woven into the action in such a way as to make it invisible.

Unfortunatley this failed in two scenes where the CGI was soooo bad it stuck out like a sore thumb.

First one - the fight between the ninja and Blade. All going well until they decide to start jumping and walking up walls... and the CGI mimicry at this point was absolutely the worst I've seen for ages.

Second one - at the final confrontation between Blade and Nomak. The fight is progressing fine until, again, the wall walking and jumping begins. Then it just gets silly and twisted out of all proportion.

Other than the CGI - I think this was worth the price of a ticket. Entertaining? - certainly. Fun? - Yep!. A serious piece of movie making history?... not on your life, but then it never was supposed to be.
