yeah its pretty cool pic but whats happening in the pic? are they all slide down onto the ship attached a rope or something?

parachute jumps would involve parachutes, and i dont see any there.

its absailing from a hovering helicopter down onto the ship.

im sure VICTOR could give us a precise military definition

I have no idea what they are doing other than perhaps an impromptu rope strength test (stupid marines are great for that ). It's possible they are doing an abseiling exercise, but you coudn't do it from that altitude (looks like 300+ metres, rope too thin) and you wouldn't have 3 + guys on the rope at the same time (not in flight anyway).

It looks like that they are being airlifted by some helicopter.

I've seen it done before, where they dangle a rope and there are footholds and safety stuff. They can lift like 6/7 marines.

It sobvious they are attempting to capture the ship by sending continuous waves of new recruits off of a helicopter in the hope that they will damage things on impact. its a known navy practice

Its a marine Style pickup. All the marines attach themselves to a long rope.
The helicopter drops a rope with a hook or clasp, the lead marine then attachs this to the rope he's attached to, signals to the helicopter and it takes off.

Its pretty impressive seeing it done and the helicopter moves at a fast speed with all the lads attached. Its a very efficient way of moving a lot of marines in a hurry, but under enemy fire I don't think its very safe for the marines.
