According to the press release on ntl.ie, BBC World, Fashion TV and the last remaining Discovery Channel, Discovery Civilisations are to launch on the Digital service on 2nd April 2002.

It's interesting to see that they have opted for BBC World instead of News 24! What do ye think.....

Finally an extra BBC channel for Irish viewers, one that Sky Digital will probably never be able to give them! Irish viewers on NTL now probably become the only viewers to be able to view both BBC Domestic Services and BBC World on the same platform. (Presentation enthusiasts will surely be pleased, most seem to think BBC World's presentation is better than News 24, although I personally prefer the latter for its news content, its more relevant in this part of the world).

This is certainly giving me a reason to sign up for Go Digital when it becomes available in my area...

    Go away!

Now, this IS choice! BBC Radio channels AND a BBC News channel. BBC World is very good, but I feel that even BBC News 24 is better for rolling news, and coverage of NI and Irish stuff

But it is tempting! Off goes another mail to BBC Worldwide....

FTV is the greatest load of ballcocks.... it was only interesting on Sky Digital when Mardi Gras was on from South America...... :D:D

    Woopee..

Men and motors has just gone subscription, another channel gone! So with one hand they give and another they take away.

    Roll on ItsTV.

    Mike.

Where did ya get your info about Men and Motors going subscription on NTL. Personally I'd take FTV anyday over M&M.....so it's not too much of a loss.

I tried to access it earlier this evening, the "To subscribe to this channel..." box came up on screen. Also if your scroll through
the channels it jumps from 128 Granada Breeze to 130 Nat Geo.

    129 is M&M.

So Eurosport and the other missing channels have finally been replaced. It is obvious that they are going for the cheapest channels out there. Although Im happy that BBC World has been included.

I bet that M&M message is an acident. Did anyone notice that Sky News had the same message for some of last weekend?

Mike try a reboot. Mine has been rebooted several times today and I'm not getting that message re M&M. Can't find any info about it going subscription or PPV on their website. Is everyone still running V5.26/5.29? Plus I wonder if the channel numbering will change when the new channels are launched. For example it makes sense to group all the discoveries together as they practically are at present.

Of course Men and Motors has not gone standalone - do you think anyone would actually pay extra to subscribe to it?

    Probably a software error...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,968 ✭✭✭✭mike65

Icdg, I put nothing past NTL, but yeah I thought the idea of having to pay for M&M was just daft. I'll check again later.

BTW how do I know which software my Pace box has?

    Well I would

Not. Damn, I forget to end the sentence with not!!!

No sign of them when I left for work @ 8.00am.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,031 ✭✭✭patrickmooney

After 8pm now and they are still not available. Have found out that they will be found on epg 169, 170 and 171, thus not grouping them along with their associated "themed" channels. A possible re-ordering off all channels has not been ruled out.

Nothing there this morning either. Another $*&! up, methinks.

Still nothing as of 10pm, truely NTL are the work of the devil...

Rang them last night - call swithced 4 times - Billy to Jack to Mary to Joan. Nobody knew anything. As I was being passed back to Billy again, I hung up. An hour and a half wasted. I should have watched Training Day instead.

Incidentally, I see that http://www.ntl.com/locales/ie/en is down.

The site's back up now, but no update to the Go Digital section on channels carried. (Although they do mention that they will install two extra analogue sockets free of charge if you subscribe by the end of the month).

Odd - still can't access it from work. I can hit the UK site alright, and I'm connecting on an NTL feed.

When I rang them on Tuesday I was told they would be on by that afternoon, but today the lady didn't really know what I was talking about. She said she would look into it and should expect a "call back" within the day. No Memos have been sent around about it yet.....

I sent an email to Customer Support and received this:

    Dear Sir/Madam

thank you for your email. Due to the unfortunate death of the Queen Mother recently, many program schedules have been changed. As a result ntl have postponed the introduction of the three new channels for approximately one - two weeks.

We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.

    Kind Regards
    NTL Customer Support

That one's a classic. In fact I would have thought that a reason to bring forward the introduction of BBC WORLD, which would have coverage of the story.

Well all our complaining has worked, the channels arrived without reboot (like the arrival of channel health) today just after 4pm. Weird seeing Ads on a BBC Channel!

Weird thing is V 5.26 was/is still there ....tsk

Hurrar! A BBC channel on NTL Digital, also Film Four is availible at the moment, this is I presume either a mistake or a taster to seduce me into forking out more dosh (it might work!).

It is odd seeing ads on a BBC channel, am I right in saying that World is not availible to viewers in the UK, and this is why they can carry ads? Something to do with thier charter.

    Mike.

FilmFour is having a freeview weekend.

Your're right Mike, its against the BBC's Royal charter to have advertising, hence BBC World is aimed at a world audience, and not at the UK.

Got a shock when I read this - started this thread 8 years ago, look what little has really changed since with the platform. We're all still here talking about new channels being added in drips and drabs.... etc....
