Who do you all think will wind up with a 3G Licence this week?

At the moment it looks like

Vodafone: will bid and get a licence
Digifone/MMo2: will bid and get a licence
    Meteor: May not bid
    Orange with ESB: wont bid
    Level 62/Denis O'Brien: wont bid
    Orange: will bid
    Hutchingson: might bid

Although the ODTR says that they will sell all the licences I bet that they will only sell 3 of the 4. I reckon Vodafone, Digifone and Orange will get a licence.
Orange have tried so many times to get a foothold in Ireland. I think they finally will on wednesday.

Orange would have been a lot better than meteor if they got the third license in the first place. they seem good in england.

Vodafone and the other one that hes said will apply have applied. Also a 3rd company from Hong-Kong or something have applied, Meteor haven't applied which is **** for me cause i'm meteor.
So far there are only 3 applicants and there are 4 licences available.

It looks like Hutchinson will apply but who cares, I dont have a mobile and dont feel like I'm missing something, except the bills!

As far as I can see 3G is a busted flush anyway, aparantly the boffins in the far East are already hard at work on 4G which will make 3G obsolete before its even bedded in.

Who can watch porn on a screen that small! :D

Not just in Asia. There are loads of people working in the US and Europe on 4G and I agree with you it looks like 4G will be available around about the same time as 3G (if not before). You can find more details on my web site.

Rumour has it that Meteor on on the verge of pulling out anyway due to cost of building infrastructure here, and the difficulty of getting new customers. Rumour. Pity, although they should have launched at least a year earlier and would have grabbed a massive chunk of the Dublin teenager market.

    :)

I reckon Vodafone will get the A-licence and whoever else will get the B's. Not that I'm biased, but they were the only company with a bid confirmed before the deadline.

    ;)

Meteor will not pull out of the market. They already have a huge amount of the tennage market. That free phone offer last spetember was taken up by all my student mates.

Just because vodafone had a bid in beofre everyone else does not mean that they will get the licence. In fact many people think that Hutchinson will get it. You are graded out of 100 for the A licence and Hutchinson already have 20 before they even start grading because they are new to the market.

The winners will be anounched in June.

Not quite. The grading is as follows for the A licence:

    MVNO access 20%
Coverage, speed of roll-out and site sharing 20%
    Quality of service 20%
    Promotion of competition 10%
    Performance guarantees 30%

So, only 10% for competition. Could be more than cancelled out if Hutchison chose not to grant MVNO access.

Mine too. But then they all promptly went back to their old(reliable) Esat/Vodafone phones when the free credit ran out.
