    there are many free services that offer similar functionality to boards.ie

    Probably the biggest problem with free forum services is the fact that the go down frequently. This does not happen all the time, but depending on the reason the company needs/wants the Forum, the frequent outages of other forums should be bourne in mind.

    What vexorg said. Not Work 54 is the worst example I've ever come across. All the unofficial (and some official) Irish footie sites use them, and they're a constant source of misery. (Try as you might, you can't drag them over to <SHAMELESS_ PLUG>Foot.ie</SHAMELESS_ PLUG>.) They all suffer from this, to varying degrees. To be fair though, Boards.ie has admirable uptime.
