    i've got an
    KT7-A Abit KT7-A Athlon Motherboard
    with a athlon 700 chip
    can i put any socket A chip in it?

    it should support socket A processors up to 1Ghz at least. im not sure if it will acccept the thunderbird chips, but u can still get standard socket A chips. also if its only a new board, depends on age here big time, it may support up to 1.2 Ghz, which would be very tasty. :-)

    Theres only two Socket A CPU's

    Duron
    and Athlon

    and the ABIT KT7 range of mother boards support the two of them.

    just to clarify that, the only socket a cpu's are the thunderbird and duron. The k7ta is a fairly new board, it supports all current socket a cpu's, including the 1.33 ghz tbird.
