Now everybody has this unique opportunity. In Germany the number of Osama bin Laden’s satellite telephone has been published. According to German mass media, this number is [edit]Number removed[edit]. The satellite telephone was bought for bin Laden by his brother-in-arms for $10,000 in New York, in 1996. Since that time, bin Laden has been using it only. It is being reported that the FBI has spread this number.
It is said that if somebody reached bin Laden, they would get a bearing on him and it would bring a rocket
strike on the location of the terrorists. In 1998, the US already bombed the satellite telephone of bin Laden. Though at that time, the terrorist seems not to have been on the telephone. The telephone was not found as well. After all, it still functions.

not sure weather to believe that or not, if I set up a number and had it €1.50 or €2 a min, and put a message on it, and sent an email to everyone, I be very rich.....

Eh if this is a premium number and you call and get a message about not reachable.. it can in fact be a recorded message line where you are connected and hearing a fake unreachable message.. sometimes even a fake engaged tone and so you are still charged for the call!!

Yes, I'd like it to be true, but no way do I want to line that feckers pocket either.

This needs more investigation before we call again I think.

This just screams "Scam" or "urban legend".

After checking it is supposedly his number, however it was given out well over a year ago and hasn't been used since.

It is being reported that the FBI has spread this number.

    Not true.

It is said that if somebody reached bin Laden, they would get a bearing on him and it would bring a rocket
strike on the location of the terrorists.

Also not true, although if it was it wouldn't surprise me that bin laden wouldn't use it for his own intentions.

In 1998, the US already bombed the satellite telephone

I couldn't find anything about this. The USA did tap his phone around that time and show off about it though.

The ability for this to become a scam is incredible. Set up a premium number and put some recorded message on the end (pretend it's an answering machine).

I remember reading something similar in one of last weekends' papers. It was something on the lines of, people set up a premium number (€1.50/min or similar) started bombarding people with text messages to call it and win a prize, but when people call the number it gets through to a recorded 'engaged' tone, so people keep ringing it and so on.

My flatmate got stung after he connected to a pornsite. The number he connected to was Diego Garcia which is also in the Indian Ocean. Coincidence?

Exactly my point! I read the same thing in the Dublin people of all places! Good scam though i must admit! Almost as good as the stolen credit card one where you have a stolen card etc advertise on ebay or something for brand new stuff, some muppet buys it.. you order it and have it shipped to him with the stolen card/number he gets his stuff.. great.. you get your money and dissapear... even better.. then he gets burned when the purchase is tracked to him!!

I think it costs about €10 or more a minute to call an INMARSAT phone anyway. Someone is getting very rich from this.
