Camcorder Tape Compatibility

    Story goes as

    [Shortened version]

Uncle, meant to come home from States, never happened.
Me decided to make a lil video of all the family n the like.

Used a 60min, 8mm Sony Camcorde tape and filmed bout 30 mins.

Sent it via An Post and it arrived about 6 days later.

Problem is, when he rented the tape to view the camcorder tape on, the camcorder tape was all white.
No visuals, no sound what so ever.

My thinking was that camcorder tapes were the same in Europe and the States.

Any one have any sort of idea what may be wrong or is it just a compatibility problem ?????

    Help is appreciated.

It sounds like a standards problem, you recorded it in PAL and the standard in the states is NTSC, he needs to get the tape converted from pal to ntsc before he can view it, or if he gets a loan of an 8mm camcorder he should be able to view it in PAL, if none of these is possible then see if your camcorder will record in NTSC then send it again.
