well...
well over a year ago i met a girl on a 'blind date' . anyway went out that night, meal, pub, etc. I didnt fancy her and told her but we got on brilliantly. So after a few* pints we decided we were going to be the best of friends... and still are to this day

does your definition of dating mean like going out with your girlfriend for a meal? or like when i was last single, some of the dates i went on?

last date of the latter was my first date with the girlfriend. Went to the cinema to see"The Others" nothing like getting a girl to hold onto you from fright, or bury her face in your shoulder screaming!!!

better still you grab her to frighten her, a great ice-breaker!!!

If I met someone in Dublin who said the word "dating" I'd think they were an americanised twat! Sorry, but I would. So would my friends... as "rodding" would be common parlance with us.

oh.... i guess us northsiders arent as eloquent as you city centre slickers. we just say im going "out with herself".

Good one for me was New Years Eve, we went Bananas, out at 7pm, i wasnt drinking, i was driving, it was cold in the car that night, drove her home at about 3:00am, she lives 4 miles from the club, got there at 4:30am.... it wasnt because of car problems either

I drive out to her house all the time, i often look to the side road where we decided to warm the car up a bit

still cant believe no1 else saw us :eek:

actually, i say dating.
not a regualr thing, but it is a good all encompassing word that generally means meeting up with one person and doing something special togther.
movie, meal, bowling, pints, whatever.

well, make that going on a date. dating intimates along term thing, in which case id say i was going out with someone.

I brought a lady out for a meal last week. Then we met with friends and went dancing in Zanzibar. I used to work with her (kinda) and we kissed a couple of drunken times last year, but nothing serious.
It was a really good night, we both made a good effort to make it special and I am sure it will happen again.

Well lets see now, it was a few months ago and things went arseways but it was still good.

It was an Indian restaurant that I use to have alot of time for, The Shalimar, but I hadn't banked on them changing their food from nice to manky, even the dessert was foul. So that was the first embarrasing thing, secondly when it was time to pay I realised that my wallet was empty!

So que me making several apologies and ducking out to get some money. Man that was embarrasing. However, things went well over the following weeks.

Sheeit! thats a good question. The last time I was going with someone (properly) was last summer. Ever since then I've been with a few chicks. Thats it really. I have my eyes on one person in particular but she wont let her feelings be known until I make my move (that'll be the next time I'm out!). Fingers crossed!:)

I (when single about 4 months ago) used to go to the Local,
have a few, then hit Skerries or Drogheda altho the latter
has more women, nice as long as they dont speak

(that accent, eugh!!!) and just chat em up at the bar, or dance with them, RnB usually the best way! If they dance with you, youre in, if not, move away quickly and act like you only made a move cos you were really really locked!

Id get a number, tell her id call her on sunday, but not call til Monday (it leaves them guessing, and they think you dont care, then when u do call, they go all ... oooh he does like me), then ask her out wednesday night to the cinema.

That was my way, and it worked quite a lot. Made it harder to go to Drogheda after a couple of months tho, i became well known as the "Serial Cinema dater!!!"

Im happily tied down now (but sometimes i miss the thrill of the chase

)

Dating, while it may not be used much is a word that everyone knows what it means when you say it so effectivly it does its job...well.

Incidentally if your going to see a movie with person you are bringing on the date, if you can get her to agree

go see a scary one*. Or even better bring her to funderland or summat like that.

The shared heightened emotion/tension involved, psychologicaly makes your chances of her being well into you after the "date" much higher.

* There is no accounting for what effect a really sh!te scary movie will have!

Never really gone on a date with someone I wasn’t already going out with and I don’t know if it qualifies as a date if your already going out.

Friends have always initially introduced me to my girlfriends when we meet in pubs of at parties and all my relationships have developed when after this initial introduction we meet accidentally on another night out somewhere else.

I've never asked a girl if she would "like to go out on a date" I think I'd feel like geek if I did. I have however organised to "accidentally" bump into a girl I know in a club/pub there is less pressure if noting is organised and no fear of her not turning up (guess I'm a bit cowardly now I think of it!).

Just to clear things up, I'm only joking when I say rodding. I wouldn't use that as a term, but I also agree with Morphéus here in that if you use the word dating it seems to me a completely American term. As in I've never heard any Irish or English, or anyone other than an American use it! I was messin though. I myself would say "going out"

I myself have never chatted anyone up, or really asked someone out. It just sort of "happened" if ye know what I mean.

Never been on a "date" either. In america, dating is going out to cinemas and stuff, but never really hanging around together, so normally "dating" someone isn't committed, and it's acceptable to be dating 2 or more at the same time.

Never chatted anyone up either. My gf of the past 2 years just walked up and jumped on me. Which was nice.

I am actually not one for commitment. I love the chase (as it was put in a previous post). I love heading out in a group, and always keep my eyes open. I don't find it very hard to get the initial conversation going with women, it's usually based around me saying something funny, that keeps us talking. I would also class myself as a bit of an extravert. I am not loud, prefer blondes, and love Police Acadamy Movies.....(lol)

But I'm a right ba$tard because, when/if I get them, we will have a good night, and then that's it. I never tell them I will ring them. But I prefer when the chase goes on for a while, and then on a particular night, you are heading out, and you know that this is going to be the night. Tis great craic. :cool:

I had a "date" (not my preferred word, but I know where you're coming from) on Saturday.

Met the girl, shared a milkshake, went for a wander about town, met some of her friends, met some of mine, got wrecked in their house (Buckfast is the new wine of love for me

) and then...

Let's just say it was a great end to a great day

That said - it rarely works that well for me!

Ahh the memories...

Used to work in a nightclub back home a few years back. Met a girl who was a friend of a friend a few hours before I started work. We kinda just klicked and started flirting.. she said she would be in the nite club later and to call over for a "chat" when I was on a break later... she was fairly well oiled when she came in first and when at the counter, called me over.. reached in, caught me by the shirt and nearly hauled me over the counter while she proceeded to snog the face off me...

The place was packed and I got a huge cheer from all the lads.. very funny...

Funny enough I managed to score quite a lot in there after that.. :cool:
