why is it called motersport if it's not??? why would they put it on the sky sports channels it it's not??

I know nothing about F1 but I always considered it a sport, don't the drivers have to be in great shape to do what they do?? ok, it's not intelligent reasoning Bonkey, but it's better than the answers you've got so far, huh??

Dosnt the car do all the work.

Man sits there. Turning wheel every now and then?

Why do they keep going around the same lap?

If you take a step back

"We are going to have a race"

"Great, where are we racing to?"

"Well, you see that big circle"

    "Yeah, i know it"

"Well, we are going to race around that circle sixty times"

"Eh, sixty times! Are we not going to go anywhere else?"

"No, the same lap 60 times"

"Can we not drive somewhere else for a while"

    "No"

    "Thats silly, that is!"

    "Why?"

"Who is going to watch us drive around in circles all day?"

    "You would be surprised, mate"

    "Eh!"

"There is plenty of idiots out there"

"I think you may have a point"

To be fair if you look at any sport in a logical way (i.e. "what's the point") it'll sound stupid. Why would anyone want to watch 22 people kick a bag of air around and try to put it in a net? It sounds stupid but I've spent the equivalent of nearly 2 days this season doing just that!

Man sits there. Turning wheel every now and then?

you've never driven a car then ted?
"Can we not drive somewhere else for a while"

    ever hear of a rally?
"There is plenty of idiots out there"

last years viewing figures for F1 alone were 1.4 billion. not including the 100 million or so who attend motorsport events throughout the year.
    thats a lot of idiots.

ever been to an actual motorsport event?
you'd know what it sounds like then.

i'd bet you'd watch short blokes try and get their rocks off on the back of some horses though?

if motor racing isn't a sport then neither is any other form of racing... from pigeons to yachts.

We had this arguement when motor racing was thrown up against my kicking WWF off the sports board.

It is a sport because there is skill involved. The skill of the driver, the skill of the engineers, the skill of the pit crew and the tactics involved in the race itself. Next time you want to post up a "is it really a sport" support your arguement or just don't bother posting because I will delete it.

These 'revheads' are a little protective about their 'sport'.

Even the all powerful Gandalf has laid down the law

"Now, ye can have a laugh all ye like, but there will be no taking the piss outta motorsport". "I like cars, i do"
