Win2k floppy problem

I just did a clean intall of Win2k Pro on a dell 400MHz PII that had Win98. Everything was working fine for a few days. However now when I insert a floppy in the drive the system freezes... mouse doesn't move, keyboard has no effect - 3 finger salute does nothing. All I can do is power off. I tried the floppy in another machine and its fine. Anyone seen anything similar?

    1. Remove the Floppy disk controllers from Device Manager reboot the machine. failing this
2.go to dell.ie click on support put in yer tag and download the chipset drivers. the chances are the resource cd u have doesn't have chipset drivers for 2k on it.
    hope this helps

Check the cables going into the back of the drive.

Try Booting from a floppy disk (Determine whether or not its being caused by Win2k)

Make sure your Bios has the correct settings.

Quite possible the Drive itself is fuxed ? They're really cheap like.

The drive is fine, as is the controller hardware as I was able to boot the same machine into Win98 using a floppy with no problems.
I thought I did install the chipset drviers, but I will have a farm around and try again...

I was wondering if this was a common win2k issue but sounds like its not
    thanks

Win 2K still uses ACPI as default....
your floppy controller and harddrive controller could be on the same IRQ...and considering the deadlock...have you just tried re-installing the drivers a couple of times....or adding the device in safe-mode?

    Sounds odd alright...
Thumbs up to the new chipset drivers idea, Win2k can be a bit narky like that.
