What do people honestly think about litter in Dublin ? and How does it compare with other cities you've lived in or visited?

I was standing at the bus stop last night on Dame street and the bin men came along and took the bags away - so I say its much better than it was 2 or 3 years ago.

This new bag tax is a bitch though.

One point ... there't not enough bins on the streets. Some foreign visitors have said that, and I have to say .. I agree. There are streets (major ones at that) that have a bin at one end, and one at the other and *maybe* one in between.

Now .. I always put my litter in a bin, but I can see how people are saying "f*ck that" and tossing it away at the earliest convenience :(

dublin is so much cleaner than cork
cork is filthy, and its not just the litter either, there is so much dereliction in the city center in cork, and the quays in some places are an absolute disgrace.

and this is supposed to be a european city of culture
    ha
    no chance
european city of litter and dirt more like

    Galweh isn't too bad.
Cork's a tipp allright in relation to old buildings etc.
    Dublin is only marginally better.
in fact the same can be said for many towns in Ireland.

If ye want to see a clean city visit Waterford during the Summer.
    Fúcking spotless. Scary even.
But it has it's scummbag element too.
    Bloody minks.

Kingscourt, Co. Cavan has to be the worst place I've ever been to for litter. You can hardly see the foot path there is that much litter. Literally.

I think it is already (on conviction). There is a freephone number for reporting litterers - 1800 248 348.

If first impressions were anything to go by, tourists coming to Ireland for the first time would rank our country as the biggest craphole this side of the third world. Why? Because one of the first destinations for anyone will be busarus and for some reason that constantly remains in a state only comparable to a rubbish dump.

I was waiting for a bus on westmoreland st on friday nite.

Along came the man with one of those big machines that brush up the dirt, and wash the pavement too.
He was doing the inside track, so was asking everyone stading in doorways etc to move.

Id say he was gone by less than 1 minute, when a bloke standing next to me droopped the butt ogf his cigartee on the freshly washed pavement, and stood on it.

I thought that littering was disgraceful, but when i looked down, i could see 2 more butts, less than 10 foot away.

3 cigarete butts in less than a minute on a 10ft area.

Then i thought about it. You cant exactly place these butts in your pocket (There was a bin nearby though).

    Just an observation.
