Something I wonder about occasionally - where did y'all get yer names from?

Mine isn't a secret identity as much as a factual statement of my beverage preference. It actually originated one day when I was trying to set up a hotmail account and didn't want to pick a name with "_2000" or somesuch at the end of it so I typed in the first thing that sprang to mind and it sort of stuck...

i asked to same question not too long ago, and was told that its been done to death, this name business.

in any case mines taken from my fav AC/DC song, plus it gelled nicely withg my gaming antics

I got mine from the lead singer of The Orange Organics. He even had his own programme. How cool is that? I looked up to him as a rebellious kid and took his lyrics as religion........."nobody tells me what to do:eek:.............."
    Mad or what?

Yeah, I know it's been done and done, but my excuse is that the number of noobies justifies the post - looks like new material to them...

It has been done to death but what the hell,

My name is my counter-strike name, is abbrev. from a character on South Park called Sexual Harassment Panda.

(And no comments please about the fact that the time lapse may not change the reason that people picked their nicknames)

Ahhhhh Montellllll, wouldya ever just PLAY ALONG!!!!!!!!

hmm. i think a special option in your profile should be "tell us where you got your name, because were dying to know" and that would stop all these threads. problem solved by prof. smak.

..... smak because its a shortened version of smoke-me-a-kipper (im lazy.) and thats from my favourite episode of red dwarf.

Mills is my real second name, people round here call me by it sometimes because there used to be three richards in my class at school. I started out with "Millenator" (hey, I was really young :p) but I soon realised it was a tad lame and changed to Mills, people called me "Mill" anyway.

Oh and I only realised lately that Brad Pitt's character in Se7en's name is Mills, which works out well because I like the film a lot, I should really say that's where I got the name as it sounds more imaginative.

Fink was given to me by my brothers friend when I was very young, taken from 2000AD's Fink Angel and Ratty characters.

Dr. Loon came abuot as I was going through some warp in time on the day that I registered here, I was temporarily insane and neglected to pick my usual nickname!! Very silly. Now I couldn't be arséd requesting to change it! :D

I got my name from Neuromancer by William Gibson.

Case's sidekick/other stuff partner Molly uses a fake or maybe her real name at one point when checking into a motel type place - Rose Kolodny.
I admit I liked the character as she has mirrored lenses instead of eyes and blades built into her fingernails - my kinda gal!

Later on, when the Turing cops are trying to track her down - they're interrogating Case as to her whereabouts and shouting "Where's Kolodny?" a lot so the name just stuck in my head.

    SyxPak.

My first gaming name was Maugan Ra - Eldar Dark Reaper Exarch from Warhammer 40,000. Used it in Lanfest for about 2months.
Switched to SyxPak sometime after that cos I couldn't put spaces in my CS/HL name (at the time). Had to choose something else.

Has some connotations of either a pack of alcohol fuelled madness or a rippling abdominal area.
In fact is is a reference to the Magnum pistol in HL, which I thought was cool.
    On Boards.ie I used to be [FCA]SyxPak.
I got the [FCA] dropped a month or two ago (thx John) after a chat in a pub.
Origionally haad it on cos after 4 mins browsing the CS boards looking for irish servers I saw people with strange symbols before/around their names.
Not wanting to look like a total n00b (;)) I added the only acronym I could think of, having joined the FCA a while before it.
Only a week after i'd registerd did I cop that they were 'Clans'.

Ah, the ignorance and innocence of youth....... :)

my name is notorious cat enthusiast, but boards only allows a limited number of characters in a name.
the notorious came from when we were talking about notorious B.I.G., and how dead and fat he was. so you could stay I ripped it off a dead man, but the cat enthuiast part is my own, coming from when the conversation moved on to cats

My nickname in school was Bull. So when I tried to setup an e-mail account with hotmail, i realised that bull was taken. I tried bullman, the_bull and other interesting combinations. until i finally came up with

    the_bullman@hotmail.com

now nobody calls me Bull, it seems all a waste
