eye got my family crest on my upper right arm, and and trying to gather some ideas for a shoulder/arm piece for my left arm to start in a couple of weeks time :)

my brother has tons of tat's tho, his newest one is still a work in progress, it s a painting by a guy called jim warren and the picute is called mountain beauty, pics can be found on the net, he is in the middle of getting it done on his back and it's looking fantastic, with only half of the colour done on it.

One on the top of my back. I want to extend it upwards to the base of my neck and to reach both shoulders.

I'd also like one on my left pectoral with some word that has deep meaning. Still looking for my special word.

    :p

    Two.
One on each upper-arm. Want a third or to get one of the others extended.

    Woah!

I've a celtic triangle thing (upsidedown) on the upper right of my arm. And I still wub it. Even though it probably symbolizes satan or something.

And I've my left ear peirced. Cos I like doodles and holes!

I've got a Gibson SG guitar drawn on my upper left arm and I wub it vewy much - very detailed and damn cool (if only I had a real one). I've got an idea (but no final plans) for the next one I'd like - soon :)

I've only ever had one piercing - left eyebrow and it got rejected which is annoying (lasted a coupld of months), but I might get it done again in the future.

Considering getting a small Tai Chi symbol (symbolises balance and change in life, among other things) somewhere like my back, maybe on a shoulder blade. I wouldn't get anything that didn't mean something or stand for something I believed in. Also I wouldn't get anything big and ignorant, and I'd probably stick to inconspicuous areas. Someone I know went down to Dublin with a friend of mine a while back for the day, my friend was getting a tattoo, the other guy ended up getting this huge ugly looking flaming skull that covers the whole of his upper arm, he won't admit to it but you can tell he regrets it :).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,972 ✭✭✭SheroN

nah...can't think of anything i'd like to get, i know i'd probably pick something that in five years time i hate. it'd have to be small with too many colours if i did get one, can't stand big huge ones. gotta hate the way the colour fades. If i had the balls i'd love to get one like geroge clooney in from dusk till dawn, although i fear it'd look ridiclous in every day life.

So this would be different... how, exactly, Paul? ;)

"remember sammy jankis" on the back of my left hand.

"john g raped and murdered your wife" across my chest.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,922 ✭✭✭Dave

I was thinking about getting my name in Kanji on my right shoulder blade in black. I'll probably get it done during the summer. But eh the thing i'm trying to get around is that it's for life.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 927 ✭✭✭Monkey

I don't really see the appeal, my brother has 2 (or is it 3? I'm not sure) and they look ****. I wonder how he'll like them when he's older?

But what happens if you gain or lose a lot of weight do the tatoos stretch or sag?

    And more to come.

Got a Dragon around my left foot, head resting on the foot, body curling up the calf.

Got a phoenix in the same position on the right one
Got a pair of cat's eyes on my lower back and planning a huge backpiece, but it's still in my head with bits & pieces on paper which have to be put together...

    As for piercings.... 25...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,259 ✭✭✭alb

I have 1, it's a celtic band, and its on my right leg a bit above the ankle. Got it done a ffew years ago on my 19th birthday, and I still love it.

As for it being for life, if you really hate it in years to come, you can get it laser removed or whatever, but are you really going to care then as long as its not in some stupid place like your face or your hand that everyone see's all the time.

And as for the streching and sagging, yes they do, so don't get them in any place you plan on getting fat :-)

how much does it cost to get a tatoo?
I think I'll just stick to drawing them on with marker :]

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,025 ✭✭✭yellum

The cost depends on the tattoo artist, I think they used to charge roughly 60 Irish per hour but if you get one with colours it'll cost you more.

The cost all depends on the size and the detail of the tattoo.
I have a dead simple chinese symbol and it cost me 25 squids.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 323 ✭✭Khynareth

True, it depends on the size and the detail you want on your tattoo. The 2 I have on my feet cost me 150 quid each.

Depend on what you want. Eagle tattoo are good (a small lane on the right in Mary street). Alan works fast and does a very good job.

There is another one (Paddy, he did my Dragon) at the very end of Capel street (UGC end).

MY guitar cost £50 to get done (and I threw £10 extra his way cause I was so impressed with it).

It's about 4 inces long by 2 inches wide and took 2 hours to do (black took 1.5 hours alone cause he had to draw all the frets and strings).

It was done in Ballina in Mayo - can't remember the guy's name now, but I know he's still there. He's done stuff for other friends of mine and it really is excellent quality.

I think we're talking about the same place...

he is fast and not incredibly expensive but the queue can get a bit out of hand so drop in before you plan to get it done and get a time then...

I have one on my right shoulder. It's of a little blonde haired Cherub with little red jocks and my sons name below it. Got it done a couple of months after my son was born.

    ...

Dragging up old posts I know but I finally got it done

Heres the before, the purple is the outline for what I wanted added:

    http://buyanorgan.net/d/tatdBefore.jpg

And this is the finished piece:

    http://buyanorgan.net/d/finishedtat.jpg

However I'll probably go back again next month to get another bit added to it below the neck and to get bits to the very outside of the back.

The symbol doesn't mean anything but it had to be symmetrical. It goes up over the shoulders and you can see it at the front too.

It took two sessions to do it. The first took an hour and a half and the second one was about 30-40mins.

That looks really cool (and painful).
Is the design closer to your shoulders darker than the design in the centre of your back or is it just the picture?
Also, extending it to your neck! Are you gonna go for the full on Blade tatoo? :)

I have a tiger with trees and stuff in background on right upper arm. Cost IR£45 about 2 years ago. Wouldn't mind getting another one done on other arm some time.

Would like to get my lower lip and tongue pierced but I would probably get sacked from work if i did!

It hurt alright, but thats part of the experience too. There was a lot of blood this time when the shoulders were being filled in. Quite strange to see blood running down my chest. I had to wipe it off a few times.

it is, because that was only done Saturday and the scab has just formed, when the scab comes off, it should be lighter and blend with the centre bit more.

Blade ? How about Red Dragon ! :p

€200 from Raven tattoo in Cork. A friend did the design for me and that cost me a bottle of Absinthe. :)

That looks well good Yellum - fair play.

I still haven't gotten my second one done (and I wanted it before now). It's a load of binary - 1's and 0's that translate back to something that's important to me.

The thing is, the design I've got sorted - it's 1's and 0's! I just can't decide where to get it. I'm saving my right arm to do something bigger in later life in a similar style to Kerry King from Slayer - it starts from his fingers and works up to the top of his head - I won't be going as full on as that, but I'd like something to cover the arm.

Back to the binary - I thought maybe across the top of my shoulders on my back? But I'd really like to be able to see it :) Now I'm thinking down the side of my leg (wrapping it round might work too).

    Thoughts, suggestions? We're talking 30 - 40 characters, so anywhere between 8 and 20 inches long :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,564 ✭✭✭Typedef

    Yup I have one.

On my right shoulder, it's a vampire..... hey I was sixteen.
    Everyone was sixteen once.

If I had a digital camera I'd post a pic, as it is, for those of you sober enough to remember at the beer bash on Halloween I will show off my tat for a nominal fee.

    You can thank me later

You could always have it wrap around the arm in a spiral.
That would hurt like a c*nt under neath though.

Not that it's not going to hurt anywhere else though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,025 ✭✭✭yellum

You could get it as a spiral, spiraling out from a central point.

Thats what I'd do but if you want it in a place you can see, how about your chest ? Like over your heart ?

Or how about having the outline of a 1 and 0 but filled with the binary numbers you have.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,339 ✭✭✭✭tman

i've got one in the centre of my back, just under the t-shirt line.
it's some chineese lettering, but im not sure what it means... i was pretty drunk when i got it:(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,699 ✭✭✭Da Bounca

I had thought of getting this done on my back, or something similar. small and between my shoulder blades .

    picture

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,228 ✭✭✭Acidflash

Why not get it done around your wrist? It's visible but can be covered up with a watch if you don't want anyone to see it.

Back on topic i have one on my shoulder. I do plan to get more, just need the time to decide what to get done.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,964 ✭✭✭memphis

    Memphis got one!!

I have a black chinese dragon done on my upper right arm. I love it, the design itself is quite basic, but I'm very impressed by it. I've it over a year and a half now and it doesn't even look faded.

Got it done in Limerick by the way, by Danny Bullman in Thomas St.

check out his website at http://www.tattooireland.com

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,846 ✭✭✭✭eth0_

Kharn - I would advise against getting binary tattooed, firstly it's going to be very hard to get everything straight and lined up, and the digits are going to be so small as to 'bleed' after about a year, basically it'll end up looking crap.

Look at those eejits who get barcodes tattooed on them, the lines go wonky and the ink bleeds under their skin because the lines are so small.

    Caveat emptor, as they say.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,859 ✭✭✭logic1

Very very nice yellum. Although your thick lats add to the appeal!

Massive room for extension and very sweet design. My sister in law is a nurse and I was talking to her about tatts last weekend. She recommends rubbing preperation H on them 3/4 times a day for the first week. Yeah the ass cream :)

It constricts the veins under the tatt so it won't bleed or scab as much and causes the tatt to retain much more colour.

    .logic.
