Ive gotten this twice now today while trying to install a few programs. The first time was when i was trying to install the Half life 1.0.0.8 update. The second was when i tried to install Go!Zilla. Maybe its coincedence but i have had some bad luck with viruses in the past and i'd like to be sure. Has anyone ever encountered this I/O error.

    The mesage reads:

An I/O error has occured while installing this file. This may be caused by bad installatoin media or a corrupt installation file.

    Any ideas??

It might be from the cd if its coming from one , the file itself or sector its sitting on the hard drive.
Get some sort of hard disk scanner to check it.
    EG gateway GWSCAN.

I had a similar prob too. Turned out my CDROM is screwed. It'll play music, but copying/installing CD's may not work properly. :)
