    What would it matter.

    a) Exists. Don't believe in him, it won't mean a thing.

    b) Doesn't exist. Beliving will just get you worked up over nothing.

I didn't vote. Didn't like the exploration of the options.

I believe that he does exist and he is an active force.

Interesting question.. if Someone does NOT believe in God.. but DOES belive in the Devil.. does that make Satan .. God?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 875 ✭✭✭EvilGeorge

Satan is a God either way , he is just depicted as the God of whats regarded as evil.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,389 ✭✭✭✭Saruman

no he is not depicted as a God in the Bible.. he is a pretender.. a young pup trying to be heard.. a fallen angel who wants to take over Godfathers Throne! Kids these days....

There is no "God" and there is no "Devil". Life is what you make of it yourself. There is no one to bail you out, and no one (except the law) to punish you when you're bad.

Well said.. the Devil is nothing more than a convenient way to lay the blame on someone else.. If you do something bad you blame Satan.. do something good in a fairly like way.. you blame God for the muppetry...

Image is nothing, Blame is everything!

It's a question that can't be satisfied with witty one-liners. And I'd be careful about making definitive statements about something you have never attempted to understand.

...I can see another thread on the horizon...

POLL: Do you believe in yourself?

    Yes
    No
    Atari etc.

Since you dont know any of us or most anyway.. you cant make that statement.. I for one can comment as spent years understanding and believing in God, Jesus, Heaven etc.. read most of the bible and so on.. i have even read some of the Koran where Jesus plays no small part and so i can definitatly give oppinions, serious ones that is and expect to be heard! There are many reasons i can no longer belive.. at least not in my head.. my brain says no.. my heart says yes and maybe (not decided) so its you who should be careful about making assumptions as to who has
    never attempted to understand

I assume we are talking about their being a being/force for evil called the devil. I have trouble accepting that that evil exists so I have to say no on any devil.

Getting back to my statement about there being no evil. Can anyone tell me a case where something was done purely for evil intent. And no-one meantion Hitler who was acting in a manner he believed was "right" or at the very least in a way that he thought would get him votes. Stalin, Pol Pot and the way I treated my little brother are ruled out for the same reason.

    Wasn't that Beelzebub?

    who?

No matter.. im sure who ever it is has to be more believable than satan!

The Pharisees accused Jesus of casting out demons in the name of "Beelzebub, the prince of the demons." (Matthew 12:24)

Apparently Beelzebub was the Lord of the Flies, the Prince of Beasts, one of the fallen angels in Milton's "Paradise Lost" ;- second in power only to Satan/Lucifer/The Devil himself.

Although there are those who believe that Beelzebub and Satan were one and the same entity...

    Me, - I couldn't give a damn either way.

Beelzebub and Satan were one in the same, at least in the totaly off your head on phycotropic drugs, one in the same

<edit> Sorry, toned that down a little. The general point: Don't judge people, we're only posting our opinions here. That's all we can do, basically. So calm down :P </edit>

Satanism (as defined by LaVey) isn't about worshipping a "god" (or devil as the case is), it's a philosophical way of life.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 113 ✭✭daftbegger

As an intelligent human being, you should know that it is a question that cannot be answered in our present state of existance.
Maybe when we evolve, we will have a more educated opinion on the matter.

Yes. It's odd that Satanism doesn't even beleive in Satan.
And it's pretty good philosophy too.

But there's no many different versions of Satan that have been around way before Christianity.
So I find it ridiculous when someone says: "You can't beleive in one without the other." Seeing as there's been many Satans, Lucifers, and whatnot long before the christian idea of 'God' came about, and none of them were actualy "Evil".

But to answer the question, no, I don't beleive in the devil. :)

    Where was I not calm?

    I don't detract my statement.

And congratulations on having read the Bible and the Koran - that must make you an expert on something, right?

    [atari]
To say one believes in 'the Devil' (or whatever) is to say one believes in a manifestation of everything that is evil/immoral/appaling in the human psyche.
It is an abstract. Man tries to put a label, or a handle on this abtsraction. In Christianity it is 'The Devil'.

I personally believe in a manifestation of Evil.

How else am I to explain the 'chart success' of Nu Rock/Boy-Girl-Misc. Bands???

Yes, Lious Walsh is everything that is wrong with mankind.

But like I said before, The Devil isn't really "Evil", only in the christian viewpoint.

    Evil People

Check out the link in the first post on that thread. I reckon that's evil. It's evil in my definition of the word. There's plenty of evil in the world. It all depends on your personal definition.

You might enjoy kicking the shít out of a dog on the street and think it's just fun. I think it's evil. So opinions are what counts and morals.

I said I don't believe in the Devil, I don't believe in God so neither do I the Devil. If anyone here says they don't believe in the Devil, but they do in God then they're full o crap. You can't believe in one and not the other, they go hand and hand.
I reckon there is a balance in everything, so if there's good... there's evil. Full stop .
I believe in good and I believe in bad. That's all. :)

    I wish I did :)

I'm not talking about Christianity, I'm saying I believe in good and evil, the idea of balance, it's rediculous to say there could only be good, or there could only be evil. So if someone believes in the Devil, but not in God.... I think they're insane...I think!
The two go hand in hand IMO, and that's not a Christian opinion. I think there's good and evil in the world. I'm not talking God and Satan. Good and Evil, whatever forces/beings they may be. You can't believe in one and not the other.... that would be rediculous.
If we're talking about Devil in the Christian belief, then I still say you can't believe in one and not the other... it doesn't make sense if you're a Christian.
