methinks 3-1 to Ireland with Sadlier scoring a double and Reid netting a screamer from 30yards

and whats the big prize? :D

Well those two lads are certainly doing well - are they supposed to be playing this evening...?

As for the 'big prize'... re-read the post. Note the meaning of the asterisk

    Nice prediction! :)

I was at the match - it was hardly inspiring... but it was nice to see us able to pick and choose players so easily, replacing every single position on the pitch and fielding twenty-three players in the night.

Good to get the win, - but useful as a training exercise also - as obvious flaws in their gameplay were shown up. They were too loose at the back at times and gave the Russians far too much posession. When coming forward they were passing too tightly and allowing themselves to be pressurised far too much.

However, Robbie Keane did score a cracking goal... which is always nice.

Pity Holland didn't beat Engerland... y'know... for the laugh :)

i was at the match too and i liked the way Duff(left footed) played on the right so that he could turn inside for a shot or through ball, same goes for robbie keane but Duff was pure magic as i got to see him closeup because i was sitting in the centre east lower stand.

but what about Healy getting Man of the Match, that was crazy, he was running around like a headless chicken

what about Healy getting Man of the Match
Methinks every celtic fan in the country, plus the entire population of cork, phoned in the vague hope that it would influence Mick McCarthy's decision as to whether or not he'd be part of the world cup squad.

I dunno, I thought Duffie played well but he fell over far too easily. The crowd at our end (south terrace) weren't all that happy with him at times over that.

I predicted a dull 1-1 but who cares, the game was rendered
nonsensical by the subs record. The pitch was in a right state,
the goals were well taken though.

    Mike.

dunno about that - ... about the pitch being in a right state, that is...

my Dad, who was there with me on the night, though that the pitch looked in great condition... especially considering the rugby match that had been played on it just over a week previously - and him being a devout rugby expert/fan (This man used to coach Garryowen, Malahide and Leinster, played for Garryowen and Llanelli and has followed rugger since he was a wee wain) as well as being a long-standing football fan (Leeds fan, gawd love him... like meself).

You may not have been able to see it at the game, but the pitch was in tatters. I was also flicking over to the Holland game checking the score at intervals and the difference in the pitches was huge. As regards the subs, I do not think it renderred the game nonsensical, I think Mick did the right thing, especially the way he left about half his first team on the bench so he finished with as strong a side as he started with, and he gave the likes of Healy and Sadlier a run, one of whom got man of the match.

I wonder if the 12 Substitutions is a record?

Or the fact that none of the first 11 didn't finish the game?
