Just got the first one this morning.

Make sure to let every person who comes to your door know about how dire the net access situation is and how your vote depends on major improvements, and don't forget to tell them you are a member of irelandoffline.com !

Ha, we had canvassers for Deirdre Clune (Peter Barry's daughter) around a fortnight ago. Unfortunately, I was out...

All personal, and kind of off-topic:

But sure your a Fine Gaeler anyways aren't you ?

Not really. I never really followed party politics until recently, I was more of a "family voter" - if it was good enough for mammy and daddy, it was good enough for me. Immature I know, but let's be honest, that's how it works a lot of the time.

As it happens, I have a lot of respect for Simon Coveney, but the rest of them (I have five TD's) have never really crossed my radar. And I have very little respect for Michael Noonan (as a leader - I just can't see him as Taoiseach).

At the moment I'm seriously tempted to send a letter to my TD's telling them that if the Communications Bill isn't passed by Easter, they won't be appearing on my ballot card. Seems fair to me.

So to answer your question, you could say I was a Fine Gaeler, but it wasn't really an informed choice. Right now, I'm not really aligned to any party. And I certainly don't want to be seen as partisan in my role in IrelandOffline. Whatever gets the job done.

Also, none of the above would stop me from ripping Deirdre Clune a new one if she came to my door... :)

Every canvesser that has approached my door so far has been handed the IOFFL Blackout Flyer. (a lil bit modified) So when they hand you their Flyers you have something to give them in return (apart from a Flea in their ear) LOL :D

Manic might be on to something.

Now I don't have a Blackout flyer as I'm sure a lot of people don't, so how about someone put together a factsheet that can be posted on the forum. We can then print off a few copies each and hand them to the canvassers at the door. I don't think there is much point in engaging the canvassers in debate at your front door as they are most likely just going to nod in insincere agreement and tell you the usual party spin on E/Telecoms ie, Government committed to E-Commerce blah, blah, blah.

At least with a factsheet its not going in one ear and out the other. If its your prospective TD at your door, all the better, he'll definately read it but even if its just a 'foot soldier' then theres still a chance that Mr or Mrs TD will get to read it back at constituancy HQ.

Here's some facts to fire at them:

The state of Internet access in Ireland: http://www.irelandoffline.com/Article.asp?id=020601

    What's wrong in Ireland?: http://www.irelandoffline.org/wiki/index.php?WhatsWrongInIreland

The blackout flyer can be found here:
    http://www.irelandoffline.org/files/blackout_flyer_small.pdf

    - with more info on the Blackout event itself and more "ammo" (info on what's wrong with the state of things) at:
    http://www.irelandoffline.org/blackout/

    ... specifically, see: http://www.irelandoffline.org/blackout/questions/what/index.htm#what_is_the_problem

and finally, this should give them an idea of why what we're campaigning for is so important and would be so beneficial to the country as a whole: http://www.irelandoffline.org/wiki/index.php?WhyWeNeedProperInternetAccessForEveryone

... hope all that helps!!! - nice idea there, Manic!

Are there any Articles a little more up to date? These are all last year. I too would like to hand flyers out, be part of the effort, but old articles won't help.

Maybe an official statement from IOFFL to hand out.

just because they were first published last year doesn't mean they are not still correct or up-to-date today... which they are.
